Just wondering if I am out of the norm. My husband got me into racing and cars. I love driving fast and upgrading our cars. (when we have the money).

Do your girls complain or are they all for it??

sometimes i get the. you wash your car too much. or your always working on it, talks.lol

but my girl has a mazda 3 hatch, so now she realizes where i come from when i want to keep my car looking nice.

karrrmmmaaa

When I brought home the MS3, my wife said "Wow, you finally bought a normal car!".

On the other hand, she calls my other car "That thing in the garage."

I got the "your work on your car a lot but it's nice so it's worth it" I got the "But you love your car" thing every time I mention some thing new or a reason why it's not perfect. However, I get the "you spend to much money on your car" "you need to do something else" FROM OTHER MALES! pussies

My BOYFRIEND complains about me putting too much money into my car.

The thing is -- he's absolutely right, so I can't really fault him for it.

He never complains about time I spend on it, or the fact that I'm really into the automotive scene. He just worries about all the cash being dumped into something that is, in reality, just a Mazda Protege with a bunch of upgrades.

But it'll be done soon, and then .. graduation to better things. :D

My wife kinda rolls her eyes. She rolls them in the exact same fashion I do when she buys furniture, drapery, and wall coverings.

but but but.....the furniture is something we "both" use. Riiiiiiiiiiight. I sat in the old chair and couldn't care less about sitting in a new chair.

lol Speed3girl, I see my post generated some curiosity on your behalf...

to answer your question, yes, most I have gone out with hate it...one hated cars that made sounds...lol thats all I can say...BUT, all of them have something in common...they all suck it up lol, they whine and whine but at the end I win!

I mean like a $30 chair can be sold for $5 at a garage sale... but like a $10,000 piece you won't get but $200 for it lol

We both put a lot of money into our cars. Although, I'm the one who had to step down a bit due to his being such a project. I decided just to get another car and be done with the Miata because there was no way we'd both be able to afford the modding expenses on both Mazdas. Of course, we agreed to put a little bit into my car but not too much since it's already quick enough.

It's kinda sad in the way because I didn't want to part from the Miata but I had no choice. It was either living paycheck to paycheck and not having the finer things in our home or deleting one project just to settle with one. But I couldn't be any happier with the choice I made. :)

BUT with that said, I would call you out of the norm. Most chicks don't know anything about tools or working on cars. You have a great advantage. A lot of the women I meet envy my knowledge (or lack thereof) because I can fit in where they don't, with the guys. Depends on the group of guys though. There are a ton of guys who don't know anything as well. SO, you are good. :P

I don't think I have ever complained. I met him knowing what he did. I myself was into cars way before I met him but the "passion" kinda died down when I had no one to share it with. When we met, BAM, it was all back. When we have the money to spare, it's defiantly going to the car(s).

After 10 years of marraige my wife has decided that complaing about my cars didn't achieve anything, so she stopped doing it. Either that or I just have learned to automatically block her out when she does complain about them. Either way, I'm good!

Yes, you are definately in the minority. Now you know. ;)

That said, my wife was/is not particularly into cars themselves, but she started autocrossing the same day I did, only wants to drive stick, and gets cars much more than the average car owner/operator (I won't call them drivers).

When we met she drove an automatic Pontiac Grand Am, and generally didn't think about cars much. I taught her to drive stick, and when she went looking for a replacement for the Pontiac, she only bought an automatic 'cause she found a crazy deal on the exact car she wanted, other than the trans. When it came time to get rid of that, it was 5-speed or nothing!

Some people don't even know what a fun car is. They just want an appliance to transport them from place to place, every time, with minimal effort or thought on thier part. She has moved up from being one of them, to knowing how much fun driving can be, and wanting it to be that much fun. She's not a car fanatic, but she's a driver. Our time with the Miata made her into that. When we got her P5, she immediately wanted the short shifter, 'cause after driving a Miata, everything seems like a school bus!

She doesn't mind me modding the cars, as long as I don't make them too unpleasant to drive. Her P5 is the only option for autocross now, so it's got Eibach springs, Tokico struts and the AWR rear sway. She won't let me touch the engine yet, 'cause it's still under warrenty. She's been fine with the MSP muffler on the car until recently, when she started commuting into Atlanta 3 times a week and the noise has begun to bother her. Honestly, while I don't find it too loud, at highway speeds, the sound is omnipresent, you can't not hear it, unless you turn the radio up, which isn't really her thing.

Anyway, basically, I'm luckier than some. I can do more or less what I want with the cars, as long as it doesn't cost too much money or drive her crazy. She (kinda) listens to me when I babble about cars, and (mostly) understands what the Hell I'm talking about. She likes to autocross, so mods that improve the car for autocross are generally encouraged, again, as long as they don't cost too much or make the car a poor daily driver. When we're finally done with school (BA for me, Law school for her) and have some income again, I will pick up an RX-8 or MazdaSpeed something as my daily driver or find a project autocrosser/daily driver to play with.

To answer the original question: She complains, but only if I give her reason to! Marriage is all about compromise. :D

Our $1500 sofa went to her friend for a fat ******* $100. 2 years later!

The thing is, she used to be into the car scene also. She had a 92 VW Cabriolet they we put a 2.0 Audi bubble block in.
13 years later and it's not cool anymore. heh. She grew up. I maintained.

My woman bithces all the time, When I had my MSP she bitched about everything. When I bought the MS3 she says "I hope you leave it alone and dont waist money buying stupid s*** for it." (Did she just say something?)

Well she doesnt know about the CAI-she thinks it came withthe car. Nor does she know about the Motor mount. What she doesnt know wont hurt her. What happens to MS3 stays with MS3. She did b**** about the shark fine but I told her i got it for $25 on a group buy.

But then again she can go out and blow 700 on a new dishwasher when she already had one- well, 3 -counting the two on the ends of her arms. Its not fair damn it! lol

hahahah it's the same with me. She drove my car to work one day and one of her staff wanted to check the car out. He asked to pop the hood and staring back at both of them was a big chrome tube. He says.. Oh! He's got a CAI. Wife comes home and says... When did you get the CAI? No time to talk now sweet heart! Gotta run.....

my girl said: How much are u paying for your Damn car?

me: 2...20K..

my girl: BS!! that was 25k

me: lol

my Girl: how much for the CAI?

me: 200...

my girl: BS!! 300...

so she never trust me forever....

One big thing my wife and I agree on is our hate of automatic transmissions. She is dreading the day when manuals are not available any more. Already her last car we had to settle for less than the best engine because it only came with the auto. Grrr.

LOL Nice to see that my husband is a lucky man. LOL

My anger is just jealousy more than anything. He just bought a CBE and test pipe and CAI for his car....

WHAT ABOUT ME????????????
