Does this happen to any of you?

A shift noise when changing from 1st to 2nd (i usually warm the car up for at least 5-10min). There isn't any resistance that I can appreciate...just a little noise in the cabin coming from the linkage. Just wondering if this is common... Car is an 08.5, 4k miles, had it since July...semi-daily driver and babied. I have heard some vague mutterings about a synchro issue with the MS3 and want to make sure it isn't what I am experiencing.
Thanks in advance.

Yeah, I get that, esp. when cold. Serious clunks and grindage. No actual performance issues. A few others get it too, and I've stopped worrying about it. Upgrading the mounts and installing a TWM short shifter and bushings, along with redline MT-90 have all helped considerably.

I have it pretty much all the time since I only drive about 3 miles to work. The colder the less cooperation I get.

lol w/ the trans mount u hear everything, but its kinda cool, but ya thats just normal tranny sounds from 1st to 2nd iv had it since it was brand new

I get some COLLLDDDD weather here and I've never had mine do that. Sometimes it's a little hard going into gear in the cold but that's about it.

Yes, the MS3 tranny is a bit reluctant when cold - nothing to worry about.

More worrisome is that you warm your car up for "at least 5-10 minutes." I hope you just meant driving sedately for those 5-10 mins as opposed to idling in your driveway for that long.

5 minutes idling in my driveway when its 5 degrees outside is too long?...

This tranny likes to be warm. Sorry to say but idling your car does nothing for heating up the tranny. The only way is to drive it.

You have to fight through it's reluctant to the cold. Once your past that it is GREAT!

Tough trannys make noise. gears 1,2,3 have triple cone synchros. That leads to noise especially when cold. With my pair of TRZ mounts i can hear/feel every gear change hot or cold. I like it

i like tranny noises unmasked by the tranny mount. even the ones that sound like marbles.

even when the car is idling in neutral the gears in the trans are still moving, warming up the trans fluid. not as much as driving but it's still better than starting up cold and going right away

on a side note, when i shift into 4th sometimes i hear a very slight "chirp" or "squeak", nothing bad but just another noise to go along with creaks and rattles.
oh and shifting into 2nd is kinda tough for me, i try to be extra carefull and smooth but i still get a little jerk, oh well
