does the stock security system detect glass breakage?

i dont believe the stock security has shock sensors. which is what would detect glass breakage.

the only time i ever got the alarm to go off is reaching threw the window to try and open the door. its very simplistic. i read threw the shop manual quite a bit and never seen anything about shock sensors for the security. i've never actually looked for it either though. so i could be wrong.

however, were you robbed? the alarm should have went off when the intruder tried to open the door. you can only unlock it with the key or the fob. otherwise the alarm goes off.

driver's side front window on my ms6 was smashed last night and the alarm didnt go off. is that normal?

thanks

The factory alarm only goes off if the door is opened.

If you get the factory upgraded alarm, it has shock sensor(adjustable) but may/may not go off depending on how sensitive you set it.

the door was never opened. they guy just reached in through the window and swiped my gps off the dashboard (BUT somehow missed the V1 near the mirror). I'v learned my lesson about leaving expensive things exposed in my car when i'm not around :/

i'm putting in a viper security system next month too...just bad timing i guess (and stupidity on my part)

You can add a shock sensor, and it does work...I did that and now if I do something like bounce a tennis ball off the windshield the alarm goes off. Had it happen when a Harley drove past my car on the street as well.

It's a $50 or so part, pretty straightforward to wire in...I've been meaning to write it up at some point as a how-to.

I would NOT invest in a viper alarm.... i've had terrible experience with them!!! I used to have one of their base models on my civic and it always gave me false alarms in the middle of the night... so when thieves really were stealing my sh!t i'd just not bother looking outside, hit the silence button and go back to sleep. My alarm installers never could find anythign wrong with it either.....

If i were you i'd put my money on something slightly better like a clifford alarm.... few hundred more but definitely worth it.

please do!! id love to install a shock sensor. that other guy says there was a stock upgrade that would come with a shock sensor, but im sure dealers charge an insane amount...

what? this is about the worst thing that could happen to an aftermarket alarm is be set too sensitive. My sister had a ultra start combo alarm/starter in it and i swear to god if you breathed on it, the thing would s*** bricks.

i had an compustar in my accord, and it rocked. not one problem. great price too.

I need to test it again, but i was dickin' around in the car and it locked/armed when I was inside (auto-relock got me).. It went off when I opened the center console..
