Tell that to all the cops I've sniffed out. You need a Passport 8500. That's what I have, and have been saved SOO many times. Even from Laser (I think that has more to do with them not haveing a good reflecting surface to het a good reading in time befoere I slowed down..I have no front plate).

Anything escort will work. The valentine is thee strongest competition. BEL, whistler, cobra, ect are crap!

The cops may not necessarily be running their radar or laser all the time. Sometimes they like to use the "instant-on" approach, where they don't turn it on until you are in their line of sight..then zap you.

Radar detectors work to give you sufficient warning in most instances. But you still have to pay attention at overpasses, cresting hills, passing median openings etc.

Mine paid for itself the first time it went off.

every ticket I've ever gotten except 2 were with a detector....I've tried all kinds......I don't bother any more, I just try to drive at the ridiculously low posted speeds.....or at least within 10mph of them

Radar detectors give some people a false sense of security. It's a warning device, it won't magically make you ticket proof. You still have to drive sensibly.

Also it should be noted an officer can ticket you without even clocking you. They are accepted in legalities as being able to determin your speed on there own. The Radar just reinforces that.

This is why when you go to court adn the officer shows up you get off. The officer is the evidence against you not the radar reading.

Once I got rid of my radar detectors, I stopped getting tickets. Cops will almost never give you a warning if they see a detector in your car. They are a false sense of security like mentioned above. Not to mention with instant-on radar they are pretty much useless...once it goes off, they've already got you!

Also, if you are nabbed with VASCAR (basically RatexTime=Distance), it is all done with math. It is pretty common here in MD. Ever notice the hatch marks on the highway....cops use them to time how fast a vehicle drives between them and uses a computer to calculate your speed.

The higher end detectors have better logic that can discern better the false signals you get from automatic doors, and alarm system motion sensors. Also, you may want to disable the "X" band if you haven't already. Once I did that, my detetor hardly went off. X-band is pretty old, and may still be in use by some small towns, and motions sensing devices.

With the radar detectors you're trying to read a cop clocking someone else before you get there. If you have a dectector that only tells you when you are clock it's just telling you that you are ****ed.

That's Why you need the Escort Passport 8500, RMR(Rocky-mountain-radar) C-302, and the Phantom II laser Jammer. On another topic of different thread i posted something about my Phantom II Laser Jammer. The Speed thing's that are on the side of the Highway, determine how fast you are going and there was one on the side of the Freeway so i went, to go check it out. "To make a long story short", I did this Twice. The first time i thought my radar was broken but my speed's were at a mere 70-73mph and the thing read 65mph, Went back again and it said i was doing 68 or something when i was going about 75mph. Both the laser and jammer went off so i figured, my Jammer was telling it the wrong speed. But it doesn't mean it'll work on real Radar's that the Highway patrol's use. Brand new i paid like $250 or so.

BTW: they got the new (RMR)Rocky-mountain-radar 430, that has the (laser-jammer) features also on it.
