You're both right. the rim is the outer most edge, technicly. But usually in automotive terms, it's called a lip.Auctually..This is only true of multi-piece wheels...A cast wheel does not have a rim.Most OEM wheels are cast..Unless of course you own a high end luxury car with some nice "Rims" on it.(BMW,Lexus,Merc-Benz,Etc...)
Now ponder on that one.
