Does anybody really have mz3 koni or bilstein on their mz5?

A lot of people has been saying and suggesting that mz3 mzs3 koni YELLOW or bilstein HD or SPORT works for mz5, but does anybody really have them on their mz5? If yes, can anybody please tell me about it or lead me to a link or something. Thank you

come this weekend, i'll have koni yellows in the rear of my otherwise stock 2008 mazda5. i have them sitting in the garage waiting to go on. had a stock strut regurgitate all its oil onto my driveway. didn't want to put another crappy strut back in there, so i bought what i thought was the best available. i really dont want to have to replace the rear struts again. next spring i will likely move to replace the fronts with koni yellows to match.

Yes! I Finally know somebody that's actually going to install koni yellow! Thank man, so please keep me updated with your install. Tell me if it's good or no good

Very interested in this......i blew a rear shock at 60,000 miles in my 2009 mazda 5, replaced them with KYB's and am not satisfied. The stock shocks did a better job, but are not durable. I had Koni FSD's and yellows in mind.
I have boiled it down to buying the stock shocks again or Koni yellows. Yellows would be a great choice if the ride is good and i can go to the fronts next and eventually lower the thing if i want.....anxious to see a detailed report on the yellows!!!
Also, time again for tires....continental dsw's, 225-45-17's are worn uneven to the point of no return. I have 32,000 on them. I know the rear geometry of the five is the culprit, but i am willing to buy new tires every couple of years to keep the spirited handling of the five!!!!!

that's my goal too. see how the rears handle stock springs, then upgrade the fronts and possibly add some springs into the mix.

...I really never understood why anyone ever buys the KYB's?

....I equate it to buying cheap paint, the labor and the fact that they last so long doesnt ever justify the cost savings. Just MHO i guess....

Why would you bother if both Koni and Bilstein build Mz5/Speed 3 specific shocks? Just curious.

Because Koni yellow and bilstein are really reliable shocks. Also because a lot of people on this forum has been mentioning that this item fits mz5, but I notice nobody actually has done it.
I want to be proven wrong :D

Im going to guess that DKaz was asking why get Mz3 Koni shocks when Koni makes shocks specific to the Mz5. I also see from some other posts that granTORRESmo might be looking for alternative shocks because Mz5 Koni shocks aren't listed as compatible with 2012 models. People have installed Mz3 springs on the Mz5 but there have been some complaints about sagging or an uneven drop, so I would wonder about Mz3 shocks being able to handle the extra weight correctly.

I c well, there's no koni yellow for mz5, but There's koni fsd. Koni fsd sucks compared to koni yellow. That's true about the sag tho. If mz3 koni yellow or bilstein do fit, then it might still sag because the shocks were made for a lighter car. I see what u talking about charcoal

My bad, Looking at my original question, I was meaning to ask about mz3 koni yellow or bilstein hd and or bilstein sport; not koni fsd. Sorry for the confusion.
So yeah, does Anybody have this on their mz5?

I have Koni FSDs on mine. They are made specifically for our car. It rides great. Feels much more like my mom's Odyssey now, as in bigger and more solid. Where the shocks really shine is on beaten up pavement where the shocks go up and down very quickly. They're designed to deal with that situation better than any other shock. From my experience with them, they live up to their claim. When I was researching the FSD I read where people with newer BMWs said the FSD was better than their stock shocks. That's pretty damn good if you ask me.

Vendor link(fits my '09):

It says this shock doesn't fit the '12, but I seriously doubt that. I'm sure someone here can confirm.

Thanks for the reply robotaz. I heard many mix reviews about FSD. I think I'll rather go for koni yellow or bilstein. They are stiffer compared to FSD, but they last very long.

Koni offers a lifetime warranty but Bilstein doesn't. That said I'm all for Bilsteins and absolutely believe they last longer than Konis. I would suggest you to check out Knoi and Bilstein's website and read their FAQ. Explains the difference between FSD vs Sports (aka Yellows) and HD vs Sports.

Bilstein technically does not offer anything for the Mz5. As you know, our rear ends is heavier. IF you do go with Bils, first thing I suggest is to send in the rear pair back to Bilstein USA (service form) and have them revalve it to match a heavier car. I was almost set to go this route but a deal I can't resist came up so I am gambling with Yellowspeed Coilovers.
