Doc B Racing reports from Shannonville...What a race!!! (drive2)

IMG_9417.jpg

It was a weekend with very high highs and some lows........

The car ran superb with the best suspension setup to date..very well balanced, very predictable, able to get off the corners faster than many of the other cars! Never having been to this track before, I was pleased to qualify 3 seconds off pole! However, timing and scoring was atrocious and was not able to get a grid list out until minutes before the first race of the weekend. I found out not only did they not have a time for us but we weren't even on the list!!

The result was we had to start from dead last in a 53 car field. My co-driver, Frank Swiader, drove this race and passed a number of cars only to find out after the race that again timing and scoring messed everything up!! We were gridded 45th for the big race on Sunday. I was ready to go and had a good start. On the opening laps I was behind a Honda that was setting up a Mercedes-Benz for a pass. Down the back straight the Honda pulled out to pass the M-B and I pulled out and passed them both with pure turbo Mazda HP!

Unfortunately, the Mazda HP was to be the source of the low of the weekend as well as about half-way through the race down the same back straight I sheared all the teeth off third gear under power. I tried for a few more laps to coax it around the track in second and fourth but I was dead meat for all the cars I had already passed and decided to call it a weekend....

As a side note, we do have new stronger third and fourth gear prototypes but they did not assemble properly and will need to go back to the manufacturer for further machining...wish I had them in already!!!

Nice. You guys run straight cut gears I assume? Can you comment on the HP output of your engine?

I've been driving around town for a few weeks now without third gear too. Good thing she's not my daily driver..........Any word if straight cut gears are available to the public yet?

Thanks Again to everyone for the support!!(2thumbs)

Regarding the gears....since at this time we are only making replacements for third and fourth (and the rest we are running OE gears) you cannot mix straight cut with helical so the gears we had made are helical like the OE gears but are made of a much stronger alloy.

We have not yet run them since there was a problem with 4th gear....they are going back and the manufacturer promises to make them work....we hope to test them soon!! Once we are able to have some of our own data on them we will make them available.

I can post a pic of higher resolution or would a link be better??

Again, thanks for the support!!!

why not change all gears at once?

a high res pic is a must for a wallpaper!

have fun guys and good luck

Nice action shot! I put this pic up as wallpaper at work today and somebody said I should make my car look like that :)

Glad to hear about the successful part of the race. Sucks about the rest. We definitely need to figure out something on the gears. I've still got one of Fountain Motorsports spare race engines in the garage and am hesitant to install it for fear of eating the tranny.

Glad you found it :)...I've got a 24" monitor and this pic looks AWESOME as a wallpaper despite being a little fuzzy at that size (thumb)
