Do you keep your 3rd row up or down?

Just curious, Do you keep your 3rd row up or down?

I just picked up my Cx9 GT and the 3rd row is up, not sure if it will stay that way since the trunk area is small. Any advice on a 1 piece cargo mat behind the 2nd row. WeatherTech has 2 mats, one for 2nd row, and one for 3rd row. It would be nice to have one 2nd row mat that folds when the seat is up.

I keep mine down when not used. Like what you said, limited cargo area with 3rd row up so why keep it up if not needed?

Funny, it is too small when the 3rd seat is up and too big when it is down (stuff flies all over the place).

I bought my CX-9 in Nov 07, and the 3rd row seats have never been in the up position.

I don't even know what they look like! (uhm)

Why not get a cargo net to tie stuff down.

Have you ever used a cargo net? Putting stuff in a cargo net and taking it out is a royal pain in the a$$. Seems almost 50/50 3rd row is up or down.

Mine is always there. I use it all the time.

Pictures? I can see 2 ways.

1) Use it like a wall, keep stuff in short section. The only problem, no where to connect it to the bottom, hooks are only at the top. You have rings on the bottom but not hooks.
2) Use is like a basket, pain in the butt.

Although I haven't tried it, the mazda cargo net we bought says you can use it as an envelope too when the 3rd row seats are down. I suppose this is to hold things down in the back. I believe mazdaparts.org shows a picture with it in the envelope position. May not be good for groceries, but could hold other, flatter things in place.

In any case, we keep ours down unless we need to use them. We have a big double stroller that is stored in the back and it would be a tight squeeze to put it in there if the seats were up, if it would fit at all. We have two young kids, one in a car seat and the other in a booster. We have to move the booster to get into the back, which isn't a major deal, but still a pain. I'm not sure either of the kids are interested in sitting in the 3rd row, so it's mainly going to be used to carry visiting parents around.

Thanks, for safety reasons, I would keep the kids in the 2nd row. 3rd row is too close to the rear in a rear-end collision. Just my $.02.

Up. I've got triplets and we're always car pooling kids around as well.

Google is your friend.
Search images with "cargo net".
You will see a lot of creative usages.

With a couple of strong binder clips, and your imagination can run wild.
Why have only 1, why not two or three?

Picked up the Weathertech cargo mat for the rear with the 3rd row down, and it's great. Most stuff stayes put, and what doesn't is hooked up to the bag hooks.

Cargo Mats

Wow, someone should tell the Mazda dealers about this! I specifically asked for a full cargo mat when I ordered my CX9 in June and was told the only thing available was the mat for "after 3rd row". Just ordered both sections on line (my 3rd row will probably never be up). Thanks so much for the info!

Since my wife is her high school's tennis coach, she's always got tons of equipment back there, so its almost always folded.
