Watch the newest GTR review from Top gear. Listening to that tire begging for mercy. That's sports car, not this or any other budget performance in 20-30k.

heh, speaking of which...some a-hole I know recently told me at a party that the MS3 was the worst turbo car on the market today. I asked him, "Compared to what?". First he mentions the Evo, and I reminded him about how much more expensive it is...so then he tells me how much better the Nissan GTR is than mine. For people that stupid to compare the two cars, there are no words. I just walked away from him while he was still talking. Idiot.

websters new world dictionary-"a LOW,small automobile with a high compression engine. (aug 1995) oxford dictionary--"LOW built fast car" (1998) old dictionarys but they seem to think a sports car should be low. people consider me to be a low-life, so that would make me sporty!!

Stupid people drive me crazy. Unfortunately, we are outnumbered by them by a staggering amount.

Like many others have stated, it depends on the definition you use.

Based on the numbers this car generates, it's a sports car. Based on the fact that you have performance and a lot of space, its a practical sports car.

Based on the "classical" definition (aka british sports car, low slung 2 seat
RWD convertible) then you're looking at the wrong Mazda (the right one being the Mx-5/Miata).

I think it is a sports car, but even though it's a very high value in terms of bang for buck, it isn't an ideal sports car if you're really serious about racing, in a track you need RWD, and for rallying you'll need AWD.

Well stated! (iagree)

What about this?

I have no idea what kind of car that is but it looks gay (lol2)(lol2)

I would consider the Mazdaspeed3 "sporty" but not a sports car. To me, a sports car is something small, light weight and fun to drive. Usually a two door two seater, rwd, convertable. Basically anything like a roadster. Examples would include the Miata, S2000, Z3, Z4, Elise, etc...

I consider it a "hot hatch", much like I did my old Mopar turbos from the 80's. It's not a sports car to me. It's better in many ways than several sports cars I've owned, which is why I bought it instead of another sports car or hot rod truck. Kinda like having your cake and eating it too.

It does remind me of the mid '80s Dodge Omni GLH turbos...

My friend has a GLH-S Omni.

GLH = goes like hell and the special edition GLH-S = goes like hell - somemore.

IMO, a sports car has 2 doors, RWD, a M/T, is 'sporty' in appearance and provides a driving experience that will put a sh*t eating grin on your face. Not necessarily blindingly fast, but is light and nimble and has a respectable power-to-weight ratio. They can be hard or soft top, or have a removable roof panel.

how about lambo gallerado; awd, 2 doors, paddle shifters

i say the ms3 is a sports car, just not in the same class as like say cars costing more. It is a sport compact. What defines a sports car .... handles corners while going fast, stopping on dime. The MS3 seems to do all of that pretty well for the money you have to spend. Can't really compare it to exotic sports cars because you get what you pay for. MS3 is a sports car, but you still get what you pay for. Just my opinion

WTF?

An orange is red, just not the same red as an apple, it just has more yellow too it, so it's orange colored.

The definition of "sports car" is very subjective.....In my own personal opinion...which is what this poll is asking...No the MS3 is not a "sports car"...In my eyes a sports car is 2 door, low sporty look, sleek, not econo-boxy....A true "sports car" is built for speed, while sacraficing comfort and economy to reach these goals....

MS3 encompasses many other areas...4-door, storage space..comfort..etc....these things drive it away from "sports car" territory...

Although it is "sporty" it is still a station wagon...

The MS3 is whatever you want it to be! Braking, handling, and power make it sports car. Space, utility, and everyday drivability make it a station wagon.

Sports car station wagon FTW!(rofl2)

is it the the same izusu motor that is in the impulse or the tropper? This answers my question lol.

Engine: The M100 Elan used a 1588 cc twin-cam 16-valve turbocharged engine, sourced from the Isuzu Gemini (a third generation of this engine was later used in the Isuzu Impulse), which produced 162 horsepower (121 kW). 0-60 acceleration time was measured by Autocar and Motor magazine as 6.5 s, and a top speed of 137 mph (220 km/h) was recorded. In June 1992 Elan production ceased due to economic conditions and a desire by the then owner of Lotus, General Motors, to reduce losses which amounted to some 36 million UK pounds over the period the Elan was in production. In 1996 and 1997, Kia Motors built the Elan under license as Kia Elan for the Korean market, using a 151 horsepower (113 kW) 1.8 L engine instead of the Isuzu made 1.6.
