Do not go to auto additions!

I had a fun expereience the other day (1/18/2010) at a local after market shop called Auto Additions at 6001 Westerville Rd, Westerville OH 43081. First they installed my remote start/alarm in December. They over charged me and my bank wanted to charge a fee, i work for the bank so that was taken care of quikly. When they installed my remote start/alarm they did not install everything that came with it (hood pin switch, valet button also used for programming, and toggle switch to turn off the remote start incase you need to change the battery and i think one other thing) as they said they would.
Because their hours are the same as my hours i had to wait until yesterday, the first day i had off this year to take my car back in. I just wanted 3 things done, hood pin switch installed, 2nd programed to the alarm, and valet switch where i can get to it not under the dash (if it's really there or they just said it was).
They called and said my car was done so i had my girlfriend take me to pick it up. Before they handed my the keys they said they didn't do the valet button cause i can do that through the remote. Fine whatever. So I start my car because it's cold outside and I'm in line because i had another question. Next thing I hear is my alarm going off and what sounds like the factory alarm of another car. I heard this because they left my car in gear and it went 30ft across the parking lot into one of their employees Honda CR-V.
At this point I'm a little upset to put it nicely and when everyone goes outside i'm told it's my fault. It's my fault i started the car that they left in gear because "i didn't check to see if it was in gear" and also "who starts their car when they are 5 ft. from it?" and "the person that left in gear probably works at the front desk and not in back so he wouldn't know" and "you didn't leave instruction to leave it in neutral". I was actrully so dumbfounded by these remarks it took away my anger, probably a good thing cause i could see myself doing something stupid and getting myself in trouble. They also told me i shouldn't go through my insurance because i would have to pay for the other guy's bumper and they will give me a break on that.
Well i next called 911 so i could file a report. They were still "helping me" untill the officer arrived. Then they wouldn't talk to me at all. Douche Bags. so i filed out the report and the officer had to go before i could finish and said "you can leave the report with them" and i laughed and said no i've lost all trust in these people which an older lady said me too! right infront of half the crew that works there. (that was priceless)
So next I go to the police station to drop off my report and decide to look umder my hood and guess what....no hood pin switch. Gave them a call to tell them they didn't do what my car was there for and the guy on the phone said "well everybody is gone but you can bring your car back" I wasn't so nice to that guy and he "understood my frustration" which i told him he didn't.
On to today, filed a complant w/ the BBB asking for my car to be fixed and half if not all of what i have paid for them only doing half the work and being bad people in general. I know I won't get anything out of it but atleast it's there. My co-worker also called them today to cancel her appointment with them and told them they were terrible people that don't care about their customers or take responsibility and she didn't want her car touched by that kinda person or company. (also a priceless moment). Called my insurance and filed a claim, the guy in charge said it's a pretty simple case and their (Auto Additions)insurance would pay my insurance back and hopefully my deductable aswell.

So unless you like getting treated like s*** and want bad service that's half assed don't go to Auto Additions

yeah luckily it was just bumper and neither lip

Well with all due respect, I think that both you and the shop would be considered at fault for the accident. Did they not put the E-brake up? I thought that it was a requirement for installing remote starts to wire it to the E-brake to prevent things like this. Or maybe it's just common sense.

Thankfully your lip does not look harmed.

i can't be at fault for them saying try it and this is what happens when i do. they left it in first, no e-brake so i'm guess it tried to start and that go the momentum going.

their is a waiver in Ohio for manuels but they didn't have me sign any waiver when they installed it

dude, sucks about your car. I would say you wouldn't have anything on them if you just happened to start the car with the remote start when they didn't tell you to try it. But, if they wanted you to try it and left it in first, then I would say it's most definitely their fault. They sound like some real shady a-holes. Be glad that places like that don't stay around long.

as it stands right now, my insurance company is taking them to court. They apparently do not have insurance, or atleast gave the wrong info. And yes the said to try it out.

ok just a quick note, they're an after market shop that turned your car off while in gear and didn't raise the e-brake......who the hell does that? its clearly A. laziness or B. lack of common sense when driving a manual.

sorry you had to go through that man.

not to mention that they're wide open for getting sued considering they didn't have him sign a waiver.

just got back from the body shop, the bumper needs replaced of course. i'm gonna have them do some other work since it's already there

Got a letter yesterday from my insurance stating that "another party is responsible for some or all of your damages." so now it's up to them if they or thier insurance will pay or if they have to be taken to court to pay.

Sorry you had such a problem but, I just had two things (wing and driving lights) done at auto additions and they were spectacular! I personally would question one who has autostart installed on a car with a manual transmission anyway. My 2010 Challenger was manufactured specifically to not allow this. There is a SPECIFIC reason why auto experts manufactured a high performance car this way. Next time, I'd buy an automatic if you want an auto start. I hope all worked out for you though.

I'm not sure why there is a waiver in Ohio when there is a law in the books making starting your car and leaving it unattended illegal. Even if there was a waiver in Ohio, I'd pretty much not do it becuase the first time you forget to leave the car in neutral, you'll be replacing your garage wall!! LOL

Several systems have a fail safe way of arming an auto-start system for manual cars. One of which is to prove that the e-brake is on and the clutch has been released before the system will allow the car to "arm." I want to say that it won't shut the car off until the drivers door closes too. Meaning, it will keep the car running after you shut it off and those conditions are met. But... no two systems are the same.

Bumps a two year old thread, has nothing but wonderful things to say about this company. Drives a Chevy Malibu or Challenger on a Mazda forum. Only 2 posts are in this thread. Hmmmm... (shady)

I was thinking the same thing.
