Do I need a Tune After Turbo XS SBE install

I recently installed a Turbo XS SBE which is the downpipe and racepipe. It removed my primary cat. I am wondering if i need a tune after this for safe operation, I also installed a Cobb SRI and a turbo xs bpv. If I do need to get it tuned can you reccommend a good piggy back system to use. Also I am starting to get a CEL from the 2nd O2 sensor not having a cat anymore. Can you suggest any fixes for this, I have already tried the non fouler, and hesitant to try the diode fix. Are there any other solutions to this issue?

The AP is suppose to get a fix for the Cel - Meaning the Catalyst Warm-up CEL will not come on anymore (I'm assuming that is the one you're getting). There really is no other fix as all TBE will eventually through a CEL for Cat Warm-Up.

You don't need a tune per say but it never hurts. The two solutions I would recommend would be the Cobb AP or the CPE Standback.

The AP only has Off the Shelf Maps right now with tuning coming soon. The SB has to be custom tuned by you or a tuner as out of the box it's nothing more than an Boost Controller. The AP is plug and play, the SB is not unless you also buy the harness.

There are a TON of posts out there on the features of each and the pro's and con's of each. Every time a post like this comes up it usually starts a fight.

For ME (Meaning my own opinion) the SB is for the more serious person and the AP is for those like myself who simply want more power and a better tune with a simple plug it in, flash, un-plug and toss in closet device. I have a DH so I don't need the Gauges and Data logging features of the AP.

So GL in your search, do some looking around and make the decision that suits your needs the most. In the end both products are great for what they do. It simply boils down to how much time/cash you wish to invest to meet your goal.

Thank you for the reply. Does the COBB AP flash your ECU each time you want to change the settings? Is it true that you only have 100 or so flashes till the ECU is rendered useless? Does the AP continually delete the CEL codes you specify or do you have to manually delete them as the reappear? Has anyone had problems with air fuel ratios after putting on the Cobb sri and Turbo XS SBE? Is this something i need to worry about, running to lean? Sorry about all the specific questions, i can only seem to find general answers.

The cobb does reflash the ecu every time you install a map. However, you will not install them often enough to worry about.

The AP has the ability to read and clear ALL CEL's. It does not do it automatically, you have to manually go read them and get the code, then you can clear it if you wish. In a future update, the AP will not let the Warm-Up code even come up. Until then, when you get it, you can simply clear it. I get the CEL about every two weeks and clear it when I do.

Our car runs 9's when stock which is simply crazy rich. Running too lean is NOT an issue on our car at any point unless you're tuned it to be too lean. Fully bolted you will not hit 12's. Besides, with the AP you can monitor your AFR's.

Do the CEL's that are thrown hurt the engine in anyway with regard to AFR or any other critical engine management part other than the fact that its reading there is no cat? Will the ECU go into a protect mode with these codes being thrown?

CEL's dont hurt the engine, its just a warning mechanism that tells you something is "unsafe"

Some CEL's will put your car in Limp mode, but I think the only ones that do that the CEL light flashes over and over again. Not positive on that but pretty sure that's the case.

If you installed the TurboXS steathback with both DP and RP, you lost both the primary and the secondary cats. At least that's the way mine is. Spark plug non-fouler helped reduce the frequency of the CEL's but they are still there. It comes with the territory.

I have not gone to tuning because AP does not have maps for uncatted DP/RP's, and I do not have the know-how to properly tune the Standback without running risk of creating more problems that I'm solving.

With the 2nd gen MSCAI and the stealthback exhaust, I seem to be running fine and with substantial power gain, dropping a full second or a bit more (sometimes 1.2 seconds) from 60-100 mph, compared to stock. Testing at those speeds is a highly repeatable way to compare power gains because you are out of the ECU nanny control in first and second gear which holds power down to about 220 hp, and also because there are so many variables in getting consistent launches in our cars. If there were no gains at all below 60, dropping 1.2 seconds at the 100 mph mark is 12 car lengths!

A little warm weather is needed for our strip to open. I think if I can launch decently this will probably mean 13.6's or thereabouts. Only a time slip will tell. From a roll, I can pull easily on any new stock Mustang GT (315 hp). They typically run 13.8's or thereabouts in the hands of someone who knows how to drive. There are a lot of them around, their drivers tend to think they have hot stuff and challenge readily, so I enjoy picking on them. lol.

Don't worry about the CEL's, enjoy the power gain.

the only cel i get now are 2187 (lean out at idle) and 0408? cant remember the last 1. something to do with the exhaust recirc. both only happen upon warm up of the vehicle then after i clear them they dont come back on the rest of the day. plus its like 12 degrees out so im not to worrkied about it. all my values are dead on.
