Do dogs go to heaven?

I've posted this elsewhere but needed to do it here as well.

Well, I just found out yesterday that my puppy (he's 8 but I call all dogs puppies) Samson has cancer. A few days ago he was chasing rabbits around the yard and now he'll probably be gone in the next few weeks. Since the day we found him, he's been like our first child. My wife and I had been trying for 4 years to have a baby, she was getting a bit depressed so I decided to bring something home for her to love and he was the perfect choice. One month later we were happy to learn that she had become pregnant and we prepared him for the new addition in the months to come. From the day my daughter came home she and Samson were best friends, he would bring her the toys she wanted and protect her from everything. He's never had a mean bone in his body, everybody loves him from the neighbors to the mailman, UPS Driver, FED-X, etc. People would bring family members who have been afraid of dogs their whole lives to meet him and after a few meetings they would be comfortable around him. At 85-100lbs he thinks he is the worlds biggest lap dog. He's always been the most behaved dog as well. He never takes anything that isn't his, from toys to food. I don't even worry about closing the front gate over the driveway since he will not leave the yard unless we tell him it's OK. I needed to post this so he's never ever forgotten. I'm really, really going to miss my buddy.

Sorry to hear. We just had to put a kitty to sleep because she had mouth cancer. It sucks. I feel for you.

What a sweet pup. Enjoy the time with you have with Sampson - just take it day by day. He may live longer than you think...I had a kitty with breast cancer that lived another happy good quality of life year after her surgery, so you never know - they can sometimes beat the odds.

Chollie - I'm sorry to hear that. She finally gave up the fight? :(

P.S. I love the second pic where you can tell Sampson's tail is wagging.

sorry to hear about this, man. it's never easy when a member of the family passes on. my thoughts are with you and i hope you can enjoy the precious time you have left with your dear friend...:(

Yeah, she eventually just stopped eating enough to sustain her. Lisa and I came to the same conclusion separately over a weekend. Somehow we just knew it was time. At least we got to appreciate the couple of months we had after we knew she had it.

Aww..he looks like such a sweetheart. My thoughts are with you. I know how hard this is. Try to focus on all the good times he's brought into your life.

dogs are always welcome to heaven ;) . i have a dog myself(avatar), shes 3 yrs old and she's always been my companion whenever i go for trips :). sorry bout ur dog, hope u can recover. it's up to u if u want another puppy in the future ...

:( Awwww... thats one good looking pup. I'm sorry to hear that. I've had 3 dogs that had to be put down for various problems. Time heals though.

Any dog that cute does, even though I'm more of a cat person meself. I had a kitten (really, it wasn't even a year old) a while back. Turns out it had feline lukiema, but we had no clue because she seemed fine. It was really sad because it died a few days after I went back to college. The vet said that when I left, it must have just sorta stopped caring or something. Great, now I'm all upset at work over that cat.

I put my dog of 14 years, Cooper to sleep last Saturday (he was just deteriorating quickly) and I believe he went to heaven. Here he is in a couple of oics

The second one is my son taking a nap on him.

That pooch is going straight to heaven~zoom zoom

I know its difficult but remember the great life you gave that pup and all the awesome memories he's given you and yours!!!!!!

Ive been there I just recently put my 13 yr old dog to sleep she had cushings disease and it really tore her up so we hadto let her go. Its not easy just let him live the best he can until its obvious that hes just going down hill and life isnt good any more, quality of life is what they deserve since they are such good animals, and its hard to let them go, but dont let him suffer. Im sorry to hear this though.

im sorry to hear this buddy i hope she last longer. I love dog to death and i cant picture how it would be without him. All Dogs Go To Heaven man Good luck
