well my DLS A6 amp came in today. the 3-way ultimate iridium 6.3's will be in tomorrow, and the pair of A4 amps will be in next week. here's some pics of the amp.
here's the DLS american site, for anyone interested in high end equipment.

dual power inputs, or for easy connection of a capacitor:

when was the last time you bought an amp that came with the internal parts list?

beefy circuit board, for only being rated 500x1 at 4 ohm ;)

$440 for an amp that is rated 500x1 at 4 ohm, but will put out a bit over that, closer to the 800 mark. and it's rated to drop down to 1.33 ohms, and i'm sure it'll do 1 ohm for burps, but i'm not going for SPL in my new truck, so it'll stay at 4 ohms with my brahma 10 hooked to it.

the iridium 6.3 component set on the other hand was $720, but well worth it since it's one of the best sounding component sets i've ever heard, and i've heard the best focal and others have to offer. i picked up the pair of A4 amps for $900 shipped, brand new in box with warranty. not too shabby, since scott bawalda, who i bought the A6 and comps from, wanted $630 for one.

Have you heard the Z6 from Boston yet, curious to see how they compare.

i haven't had the opportunity to hear a set of the Z6's yet:( does your dad still have his set installed? once i get this all installed we can have a listening session and compare the two sets;)

i was thinking of going all dls amps a little earlier this year. the a6 will do 1 ohm with no problems, but you'll prolly have to put a fan on it. i think the output at 1 ohm will be like 1200w rms. i don't remember. i'm still debating on if i should go with the ultimate A4 and A6 or just a single 1300 Memphis Belle... either way, i really don't see a way i can lose.

if i do get the dls amp, i will be hooking my hc up to it at 1 ohm. the motor acts as an inductor, there-for the inductance that the speaker sees will cause impedance to rise above Re. hence, in all technicalities, the amp will NEVER see a 1 ohm load.

i think i will be going with some dls ultimate up 6.5 comps up front. just the 2 way will be fine with me. that's cool that you got them from scotty. uuuuhhh.... you aint turnin into an sq-eer, are you?

yeah, i figured the A6 would be fine, since it is so overbuilt. i'm going to use banana plugs to change the sub from 4 ohm to 1 ohm without touching the amp or the sub terminals. as you know the A4 and A6 have the fan output, so i may just hook up a high power computer fan to it. i'm trying to work out a good way to mount it. i was guessing the 1 ohm power would be between 1200 and 1300 watts.

i haven't heard the UP1C tweeter yet, but i'm sure it's gonna sound great. the DLS america warehouse actually sent me the UP36's by mistake. i took them out and looked at them, and they looked very promising. scott was telling me that his iridium 6.5's are high passed at 33 hz and he's feeding them over 100 watts. not too shabby for some mid-bass;) he said that in all honesty the 6.5's are better for mid-bass than the 8's.

and yeah, this install is going to be for SQ competition. it's in my new truck, an '04 nissan frontier, and i wanted all high end equipment. course i've got an '86 blazer sitting out back, waiting on an SPL install;)

sweet. we'll have to see who else in orlando has a nice system and we can all kick back and listen to each others systems. i'll bring the iasca SQ CD;) course this won't be for a few months, i still need to save up for the alping PXA-H701, the RUX-H701 (display for the PXA), and the 9835. hopefully i'll be purchasing the wiring and wiring accessories this week. about $350 just for all that:(

How do the newer Alpine models compare to last years. I've got the alpine 9813 now.

pretty similar. i really want the in dash DVD player or a flip out unit so i can use fiber optic to the H701, but i don't have that kind of cash anymore:(

the A4 four channel amp is a bit larger than the A6 sub amp.

one of the A4's will be bridged for the mid-bass:

the other will run the mid-ranges and tweeters:

I've said it many many many many times that you're not gonna find any other speakers that sound as good as DLS Iridiums. How is the DLS amp and how would you compare it to a Zapco competition amp? The only problem I know with the Zapco competition amps is that you have to put a piece of tape over the fans for SQ comps cuz they're pretty loud. Good purchase.. I give it 2 thumbs up, hope you enjoy it.

sound is a funny thing, since each person hears different. but going by what i've personally heard, the DLS iridium's are definitely one of my favorites.

the DLS amps are amazing. great build quality, very high quality internal components, and good user features. i'd rate them right up there with zapco competition amps. DLS may not have as large of sub amps, but how often do you really need over 1200 watts when going for SQ?

My A5 and Iridiums came in a few weeks ago. I'm working on the new amprack/subbox at the moment so it will be some time before I get to hear the whole package. Keep us posted with your install (and check out my install thread, I'll have more pictures tomorrow evening).

I paid $1200+tax for the A5 and Iridium 6.3s. Not sure what the break down was but I guess it was $500 for the amp and $700 for the speakers.

I've been watching the prices on the DEX-P9 on ebay. A used one with the DEQ-P9 went for about $850 a few days ago. I'm in the process of buying a condo so I couldn't work up the effort to bid on it. I will probably end up with a DEX/DEQ-P9 from Pioneer or a Clarion DRZ9255. The Pioneer has a 30-band GEQ while the Clarion only has a 5-band PEQ but both are top notch no-frills SQ-only units.
