OK, so I have been taking my 2006 cx-7 awd to the same mazda dealer it was purchased. The quality of service has gone downhill cuz of new people running the dept. so I took it to another mazda dealer for my last oil change.
The folks at the new dealer told what I thought was loud tire noise was actually my rear wheel bearings. The manager told me $700-something to replace...I told him I would get back cuz my dad might be able to do it. I called the guy back (it's been about 3 weeks) and he said it would be $958 for the job. I'm going to take it down to the original mazda dealer for an estimate tomorrow and see what they quote me, even though I don't want them touching my car again.
Chances are I'm going to have my dad do it for me, any special tools needed for the job? The parts dept. told me the bearings is an 'assembly' and they are $205 each, so $410 for both rear tires. I found bearings online for like $60 bucks, but that looks like just the bearing and not the 'assembly'....I assume 'assembly' just means it's part of another part so the bearing is inside some sort of housing or something?
Anyway, any tips are welcome cuz my car is loud as hell and don't want to keep pushing it. I have ben driving like this for like a year and thought it was my tires all along.
Oh, the original mazda dealer never mentioned anything about a wheel bearing even though they have been taking care of my car since new. Another reason I don't want them touching the car, I think they are clueless.
