DIY rally armor mudflaps

Hey guys, I've always like how rally armor mudflaps looked on wrx's, STi's, Evo's, MS3, etc... Was looking at getting a set for myself and when i went to look, of course they don't have one for our car lol

So I figured I'm pretty handy and good at finagling(?) so i bought a set of the universal ones and Going to get them to fit. One way or another.

So far my total investment is $16+5 shipping =$21

I'm gonna make this thread my How-to as i go through doing it.

they look nice IMO but where the hell did you find them for 16 bucks?
those s**** are normally up towards 90 bucks

yea basic universal.

i figured once i get them mounted to a point i like i might get the money and get the nice ones....but for now i'll stick with the cheapies....

I took a quick look today about how/where i'd mount em. the fronts look pretty straight forward/ easy, but the rears look like they're gonna be a lil more work

going to mark up a template tonight/tomorrow and i'll update after it

Hows the quality of them? I was thinking of ordering a set for a RallyX im doing the end of Feb and was wondering how durable they will be for a 16 dollar set over the 90 dollar set? Be sure you post pics when u get em mounted. Ill post a pic of mine too one i get em in.

i think the only difference between the 2 is the colored logo and the 90 dollar ones are THICK urethane compared to the thin plastic the basic ones are

the other ones will probably better waulity, but for test fitting and whatnot I chose to keep it cheap

I just got mine in the mail today. I am very pleased with what I got. A lot of Rally forums stated to just get the plastic product from Grainger and Auto Advance or use placemats from IKEA and make your own. That would have been more expensive that these Universsal ones from Rally Armor. They are "plastic" and not rubber at all so if your loking for rubber these arent for you. The higher quility ones might be rubber. I like that they're Rally Armor and like supporting rally companies. These will be on my daily driver. I live in michigan so it will be nice for the snow. I plan on doing some SCCA RallyCrosses and TSD's so these should work nicely. Already bought the snow tires now i just need a good set of used rally tires and im all set! Ill post some pics of mine installed as well so people can see what they look like.

So I went out to ikea and bought those exact place mats in the link above and they worked alright. They are a bit narrow but it gives you an idea. I will be buying the generic rally armor ones for next winter though. I'll try and get some pics to post soon.

Im currently in the process of making them out of a garbage can I picked up at Lowes. Got the idea from a post on mazda3 forums.To attach it I epoxy'd on to the back of the bumper, nuts. The body of the protege has 3 holes located on the back side of the rear wheel well's. Thats were I epoxy'd the nuts.
