Disturbing Japanese Auto Trend

I NEVER knew dodge was owned by mercedes! insane! LOL.

I thought MB and GMC were in bed together since the corvette has a suspension done by MB. Weird, learn something everyday.

I think all the car companies should just merge, America has the money, Japan has the build quality, and Germans have the know how. I dunno, I dont really mind anymore who makes the car or where it comes from. As long as it looks hot, runs strong, and is solid to a degree.

ford does not own mazda....with the 3 and the focus having the same motor and similar stuff is all a contract a agreement same with the 1st gen mx6's and probes ford just bought japanease motors to put in the probe thats why the mx6 came out in 88 and the probe came out in 89.... and with imports being made cheap...i dont believe it cause if you guys read car mags you guys will see what cars win car of the year almost every year (japanease cars) and i dont think that amarican cars will ever be as good as imports remember that japans knowledge on technology is like couple years much more advanced than us here in the states....

i think its daimler chrysler and mercedes who are together..and chrysler is the makers of dodge...not sure who owns who but a lot of the new chrysler products are having tons of mb parts in them...take the crossfire for example...its got the same platform as the slk 320, same engine, same gearbox and tranny...the only differences are the spoiler on the back and the size of the rims on the crossfire..mostly everything else is mb

* The CEO of Nissan has been quoted as saying something like, "We want to build quality but we don't want to overdo it". I consider that code for, "Build them as cheap as we can get away with and not piss too many people off".

you might notice that this dosent sound very japanese. thats because the ceo is a dirty french man

Wow, the stupid is strong in this thread. First, the Nissan motor and Toyota motor are made by those car manufacturers. Whoever told you that must be half retarded. Why would Nissan make ads comparing it motor to what is essentially the same thing? Same goes for Toyota. Second, Ford owns a controlling interest in Mazda. Go to Ford's homepage, Mazda is listed there along with Land Rover, Lincoln, Jaguar, etc. Third, MB was founded by Gottlieb Daimler and Karl Benz, and they were Daimler-Benz for a while (a name that still sticks with them today), and eventually turned to Mercedes Benz. Finally, Dodge being owned by Mercedes has nothing to do with Mercedes and General Motors collaborating at all, Dodge is Chryslet and General Motors is Chevrolet, Pontiac, etc. Geez, for a bunch of self-professed car people, you sure don't know s*** about them. And most of this stuff isn't all that hard to figure out.

you just saved me like 20min of typing ;)

misinformation so makes my head hurt

All I need to say about Ford is plastic water pump impeller (guaranteed to go in about 30k)
Why would Ford give Nissan an engine for a truck that is possibly the closest thing to getting the F150 off the best selling throne?
What problems are going on with the 3? First year models almost always have issues. That's what warranties are for. I'd also always be wary of 1 year models, especially ones so signifigantly changed as the 3. (go for the second year, that's when the problems have been fixed and the accountants have usually not decontented the daylights out of the model).

I'll have to agree with AlbinoMuntjac.

there's a lot of stupid talk here and it's a bit scary...

however, just because this is a car enthusiast's board doesn't mean that the people here have to be knowledgeable.

if you're going to post something, do a little bit of research first.

if you're going to be talking out of your ass, the entire internet community will know that you're an idiot.

Well said.
Also, GM has Pontiac, Buick, Olds, Cadillac, GMC. Saab, Saturn, Isuzu etc.
The Big 3 owning all the Japanese and German companies...WTF?
Daimler-Chrysler was a merge. last time I checked, Toyota and Honda weren't owned by the Big 3, frankly Toyota will probably soon be 3rd (they are 4th now). BMW is independent.

It pains me to say this, but ford quite possibly puts out the most reliable car on the market..if you guys need me, i'll be in the backyard dosing my self in gasoline.

What vehicle is this, the F-150? It sure as hell isn't the Focus.

Nissan Titan/large size pathfinder has a Ford engine(v8) Toyota V8 is made by GM.

You are joking right ? You seriously wrote this?
Like Ford in going to provide the engine to it's competition in the full-size truck market.
The Toyota V8 has nothing to do with GM.

If you want reliablity, buy an old (pre-Ford) Volvo. They hold the record at something like 2 million miles on an original engine. All I know about Protegs is that the biggest weanies of all: Comsumer Reports has constantly given them above average reliabilty ratings for the last several years and that's good enough for me.

if you're talking about automatics, then no

a friend of mine had her transmission replaced in her 626 three times

so she bought a Malibu :D

I had mine replaced 3 times & the engine totally rebuilt as well.

More Data

Continuing with examples of the downward trend in Japanese auto characteristics, the Nissan Sentra now rates worse than average in reliability. This is the first time the Sentra has EVER stooped to that level of craven, contemptible quality and I believe Nissan deserves to fail as a business for their lack of care in such matters.

Scorn and wretchedness is what theyve brung to themselves-- For what used to be a company that built high quality vehicles which you could depend on.

Damn them. Damn them to Hell!!

(Reliability is something I consider paramount, in case you didn't notice :p )

There was a good Volvo mechanic in Ithaca NY where I went to school...as a result, there were tons of old Volvos on the road well past their lifetime. You can get a special emblem for the back that says "100K-mile club" or something similar around the Volvo logo.

There was also a SAAB mehanic, and tons of old 900s on the road. Those cars (late 80's early 90's) will also run forever and never rust.
