Did they let you test drive before buying?

There's two ways to look at this. The 1st is obvious, dealer is being a jackass. How can anyone buy a car without testing it? Even more important to do so with so many little problems on the speeds.

2nd. At least when you buy a car here, you will know that your over priced limited protege hasn't been ragged on by some teen just f'n around.

If you were really young I could maybe understand it, but your an adult, heck, your older then me :) There's no excuse for them good enough as far as I am concerned. their not selling a ferrari.

HAHAH funny you mention this. I Bought my speed from them. Patrick Mazda Right?? I had to have my father sign a contract binding him to the sale of the car pending a "satisfactory" test drive. We signed the papers and I went for a ride and we went home with the car that day! Believe me, you wont be disappointed. Ask the dealer if the remember the kid that bought that Black speed about 4 weeks ago. Then tell them you talked to me and you know that they will let you go on a test drive because they let me.

I had to put $1000 down to drive it. I out it down conditionally, that if i didn't like the car, i got my $1000 back.

I had haggled out a price, conditional to a test drive. Didn't go far, but did cause the salesman to almost crap himself.

MS MSP #143

Drive down here to Cincinnati and I will find you one to drive. That's BS! My opinion is deciding on a car by one dealerships opinions on test drives is a little immature? I would decide not to buy one from that specific dealer but not reflect the car itself?

That is crazy, no test drives? The first day I stepped into the local dealer's lot, teh guy practically begged me to take the MPS out....after I told him I wasn't interested in buying that day. Took it out, and he told me to drive wherever I wanted, as long as it was within 5 miles of the dealership. So I drove it, through twisties, straights, up hills.

Then a month later, I came back in, and he told me to take it out AGAIN before talking about buying it. I did. Fell in love again. Told them that I wouldn't pay anything more than MSRP, since it was a limited edition...I told them that the price of it being a limited edition was already factored into the price. So after about an hour, they said, fine, MSP for MSRP it is.

I just can't drive it till Saturday, because they're putting an undercoat and scotch-guarding the interior. :D

Go to Kings Mazda just south of Kings Island, north of Cincinnati. I saw the color you want sitting out front yesterday when I drove by. They generally do not put them out front when they are sold. Those stay way in the back by service. Call and ask for Paul Kane. Tell him Tom & Kristi Bicknell sent you. He will treat you right. No problem getting a test drive there. 513-683-4900

When I first went to look at the MSP, I was hooked. I wanted a test drive. The salesman was really apprehensive at first. The sky had just dropped about an inch of rain in the matter of 1.5 hours. Salesman first said no, but then when he say the look of disappointment, he went and asked the sales manager, who gave the thumbs up.

Needless to say, 11 days later I was driving off the lot with mine.

**** that s***!!!!!

I test drove a speed at 4 different dealers before I bought mine. I went on the highways and turnpike speeding and weaving in and out of traffic. I even tested out the brakes by stepping real hard on them at 80 mph. I got my test drive worth and I liked it and I went to another dealership and bought mine cause hit had just come in to the show room and it wasn't test drivin by anyone yet.

Go to another dealership and try. If the say no, ask for manager and get the Mazda Corp # and call from that dealership. Explain that you are approved and they won't let you test drive it.

**** THEM I SAY:wtf: :wtf: :wtf: (argh) (upbum)

Call Mazda of Bedford (Cleve, Oh). Tell them your situation and they will welcome you with open arms, if not PM me and I will talk bad to them (I bought 3 cars there). There tails will go between their legs. (440) 439-2323 ask for the MazdaSpeed Guy. (3 Black, 1 yellow, 1 titanium)

My sales man at University Mazda (Eric D) showed me a nice little route in a P5 (which he totally flogged on the way) and when we got back to the dealership, threw me the keys to the MSP and said "have fun"

Took the route 4 different times, drove the hell out of the car and when I got back I said "pull the one with the fewest miles on it (8) and get it prepped so I can take it home!!

I still love my MazdaSpeed(yes)

The asshole Mazdaspeed dealer here in Columbus, OH wouldn't let me test drive a 2003.5 titanium yesterday. Told me i had to have the deal done first! I had my pre-approval from the credit union and still wouldn't let me. **** them! I'm not buying a SPEED because of this.

Tool - way to be adult about it, what is this, pre-school?

The guys at Byers aren't trying to be dicks, they're trying to protect the car, like they've been INSTRUCTED to from Mazda.

Talk to Chris, the manager, he's a pretty damn decent guy or Brian, the Service Manager, he's pretty damn nice too.

How about:
"They let some nutjob testdrive one of the 2000 US 'Speeds and he tore it up joyriding. F them! I'm not buying a Speed because of this."

Sheesh.
You want to ride/drive in one? I'm in Columbus.
LMK.

But no cocks in the car, leave the 'tude outside.

First of all i'm 31 years old have a credit rating of 759 and i'm a tier 1. I'm not going to rag the car out! With all the problem with the car why should i buy one that acts like that way on a test drive? Who are you by the way? Someone from the dealership?

If you know you're going to buy it anyway, just roll in with a list of all the problems that you will have
-clunk
-hesitation
-leaks, etc.
And say, "You shield this thing from me like its the second coming and won't let me test drive it; well, then I'll buy it, and when these things happen and I bring it back, you better have a solution for me right then and there because this thing is so precious that there should be nothing wrong with it, and if there is, it should be a quick, easy, permanent fix---oh wait, there aren't any."

Am I bitter about the clunk? YES.

I had a Subaru guy tell me a couldn't drive a WRX back when I was looking before I bought my MP3...walked right out...its not like its an STi or something...

Hmmm

Well I had already gotten on one dealers ass by calling Ford Partner and giving them a blow by blow of the events that occurred. So then they got a hold of Mazda friends and raised no end of Hell and the general manager of the dealer called my house 5 times in 6 hours practically begging me to come back and buy a car. He was also trying to bulls*** his way out of the crap his sales manager pulled. Anyway I said no thanks keep your car and the smoke your trying to blow up my ass.
Mazda called the next dealer ahead of time and then told me were to go. So I got there to get a 6S at a big discount :) and went for the speed instead. Test drive you ask? Well lets just say my car had 80 miles on it when I took it home and I put nothing down Nadda, Zilch, Zero, not a single solitary dime!
Drove it and drove it hard grinned like a maniac made the salesman scream and I still have that same grin every time I drive my car.
31 yrs old with a 759 credit score it's a dumb ass decision to turn that person down for a test drive of any car they have.
Don't give up on the speed just give up on that dumbass dealer.

BTW: I dont have any hesitation, stalling, clunk, or any other major problem at all. I have 8700 miles on it and I bought it in Feb.

 Yeah lets protect this $20K Econobox with some good handling and a small turbo. Lets just go with the person on the testdrive and not say anything if they start getting on it too hard. All they have to say is "Keep it under 4000 RPMs please" and ride along.

I would go to a different dealer. Its not Mazda's fault, but the dealer.

I talked to the guy in the service department and the hesitation and clunk. I even tried pulling it up on the internet but they had firewall protection. They haven't had a car back in yet but it's just getting humid here so time will tell. I'll probably end up driving to Ciny or Cleveland to get one.

chwood this is not the case of some pimp faced young kid walking in just asking for a test drive. He went through the first round of paper work and got credit approval. THAT ALONE should allow him to test drive it.
You should never have to have the deal done before being allowed to test drive a car; PERIOD!
He is not the "tool" as you put it, perhaps go through and re-read the post.

Dealers already having a hard time selling them, think they'd be happy someone is atleast interested and went through credit approval for it.

Cussing and saying **** this and that and saying i wouldn't buy the car was me blowing off steam. Some people don't realize how hard i've worked to get great credit and to have someone turn you down on a test drive just sent me reeling!!! I will try another dealer. Thanks to the guys from Cleveland and Cincy for the dealer info there. I will call and set an appointment up.

LOL

Wow, a guy comes in calling people "Assholes" and declares "**** them," but damnit don't you dare call him a "tool" for acting like a 3 yr old.

Sheesh fellas, my bad, I didn't realize only 1/2 of us should speak our minds...

Byers was great to me and assured me that they would take the car back if I didn't want it. <shrug>

A credit check from the credit union doesn't mean much to the dealer w/ re: to you agreeing to buy the car - and since that is why they wouldn't let you test drive, then your approval in non sequitor. All you did was show them that the bank says you can afford to buy a $20k car - so what, so can most of the country.

Sure its only a $20k car, but they are billing it as a limited, exclusive car - limitations like this may be overprotective, but they are also consistent with that marketing notion.

The fact that I think he overreacted like a tool, thus the christening, doesn't mean I think the policy is called for/wise/reasonable or whatever. I merely presented the other side of the argument, since my experience has been that they are, in fact, NOT assholes.
