Did they let you test drive before buying?

The asshole Mazdaspeed dealer here in Columbus, OH wouldn't let me test drive a 2003.5 titanium yesterday. Told me i had to have the deal done first! I had my pre-approval from the credit union and still wouldn't let me. **** them! I'm not buying a SPEED because of this.

It is only a $20k car, not a Viper for goodness sakes! I understand their hesitation, given buyer preference for MSPs that haven't been driven much or at all, but they can't realistically expect someone to buy the car without a test drive. I own one and love it, but these cars aren't THAT special.

Their loss. Find another dealer.

Peace...(hippy)

Thats bad of them to not least let you test drive it after credit approval etc.
I say go back and be say you are probably going to buy it but only after a test drive.
If they say no then just start walking out. Course if they give you just much crap they might not be a good dealership later down the road also.

Should never buy something without test it first! Regardless if you are really going to buy it.
Hate to get it and bring it home only to decide you don't like it.

That's a load of crap. Find a different dealer but make sure you go visit those tools again when you have a new MSP from a competing dealer when you do!:p

Dang Tootin'!!!

No way, would I buy any car without a thorough test drive. :wtf:

That dealer doesn't deserve your business. Go elsewhere!

yeah man, go to another dealer. My salesman encouraged me to drive it before we talked any s*** about a deal. If you come in pre-approved they should be kissing your ass!

came back twice to the dealership. test drove 3 times.

my dealership welcomed a testdrive with open arms.

go to another one, seriously, REMillers is right, if they are assholes about a test drive they'll probably void your worranty for playing music too loud.

good luck and dont give up on MSP - awesome car

The same thing happened to me when I went to test drive a Civic si (just for kicks), first no one even greets me, so I ask some guy to show it to me and he says pointing: "theres one over there", I'm like, "ok, whatever", so I go to check it out and after a few min I had to hunt down a salesman to ask him for a test drive, heres how it went: (hes acting like a total asshole during the entire conversation btw)

Me: Hi, Id like to test drive a Civic Si.
Him: err.....how old are you?
Me: 20, why?
Him: we dont give test drives to people under 21.
Me: how do you espect me to buy a car without test driving it
first? All of the other dealers gave me test drives.
Him: we don't.
Me: well, that sucks...glad I didnt do business with you. (turned my back and left).

Hate to sound redundant but you need to find another Mazda dealer. Always best to shop around anyway.
Not that this had to do with a test drive or anything but, the first Mazda dealer i went to tried to **** me on a used P5. They had me there for HOURS only to beg for more money.
Drove to another Mazda dealer the same night, got a brandy new '03 P5 with 4 miles in NO time at all!!
Ironically enough, i had to go back to the first mazda dealer in my '03 P5 to get my Insurance card because they forgot to give it back to me.
I sure as hell pulled right to the front of that sales office for all to see, and got my insurance card back. The shocked look on that salesmen's face made my inards tingle!:D

You're not alone. I got the same :bs: from the "Gordy Bouche" dealership in Milwaukee. They guy was like "we'll let you take an ES out -- they're pretty similar because of the firm suspension." I'm like, "yeah, right." They're not even CLOSE - if the MSP drove like an ES model I'd BUY the ES model!

Go to another dealership post haste. And then drive by that bad dealership in your new car and tell them they're "numba won" :flip:

:D

walked in, said, "can we look at the Mazdaspeed?" reply: "sure, its right out here." 10 minutes later after stereo blasted to max, "want to take it out for a spin?" reply: "sure!" i was sold, but we went elsewhere to get an orange w/ 6 miles instead of a black w/ 20 miles. then again, if you really want to nit-pick, i was sold at NYIAS. so what am i saying? what they said, get a new dealer, that one sucks...

The funny thing is, if the dealers were smart they'd be BEGGING people to drive the MSPs -- they'd sell a lot more of them that way. I wasn't sure I wanted one until I drove it and saw just how awesome the car was compared to my 2000 ES. So the test drive sold me.

That's exactly how I got mine...I had just test drove an Integra GS-R and had my mind set on it. I went to the Mazda dealer just to check out the MSP, not buy it. When the salesman(very nice guy) heard I was gonna buy the GS-R, he told me to test the MSP first...I said, no, I didn't want to spend that much(the GS-R was $17,000). He said, "trust me". I agreed, not expecting much of anything(I'd never driven a turbo'd car). By the time I hit 3rd gear after leaving that first intersection, I was practically laughing. I was sold. They had to find me a Spicy, and I picked it up 3 days later.

quite frankly i never test drove the car. anyone who is an enthusist and knows what they are reading on the sticker should know it reads like a wish list out of an import tuner mag. working at a MAZDA dealership didn't hurt (car at cost)

Not MSP, but the dealer I bought my P5 from gave me the keys to the car late at night and told me to take a drive, WITHOUT HIM IN THE CAR! Now that's a dealer!

I was waiting, and waiting some more for my preordered speed to come in. Called the dealer like 10 times that day 'cuz it was finally coming and when it came in at 4:30 they tried to tell me that it was to late to pick up that day. I was like no way, and my dealer agreed to stay after hours to get it all done(he was probably sick of me callin for like 6 weeks). Went in at like 6 and was outta there (with no test drive) an hour later. It was the first one sold at that dealer so a lot of them stayed untill I drove it out. I'm glad no one else drove my car!

I got to test drive an 03.5 MSP 3 times wihtout the dealer in the car. He was like "here ya go have fun just make sure you bring it back" Well suffice to say I DROVE the yellow one, put some miles on it, had some fun, then bought the 03 Black one with 4 miles on it that had been sitting in the show room since they got it. If a place won't let your drive a car then go somewhere else, no one buys a guy without driving it.

go back and brag as to how you got a sweet 24 test drive from the Dodge dealer on a SRT, that it is sooooooooooo much better, that you just wanted to let them know they made your decision for you and to thank them for screwing themselves out of a sale. also say that you are just SO SOLD on an SRT that there could be NO WAY IN HELL they could convince you otherwise.

if that doesn't get you test drive, at least you could let them know where that kind of customer service might get them.

i say "might" because the aforementioned scenario is purely hypothetical - no one on this board really wants you to go buy an SRT :) just buy what makes you grin behind the wheel and don't buy it from clowns like that.
