I've noticed since I bought my winter wheels (+48 offset) that I've developed alot of rust spots all over the sides and rear of the car. i do 95% highway driving @ 75-80 MPH.

I used a PC 7242, White medium pad and Klasse All In One, it got 95+% of those rust spots off.

I didn't clay the car as it was close to 60 on Saturday but I had a bunch of errands to run and didn't get to the car until yesterday and it was overcast and 40 so not warm enough.

Here are the pics of the rust spots that were all over the doors and hatch area only (none on roof, hood or front bumper)

Thanks! Definately!

Yah, I've run her through a dozen or so touchless wash's this winter, so I've noticed the rust spots getting worse and worse each time. . .it was literally bugging me badly that the car was soo dirty. Of course, the roads were damp enough to get the rear end a bit dirty on my way to work this AM and it's suspossed to rain today. . .that's chicagoland weather for you!

i cant blame you! i run mine through once a week just to rinse off the salt. I havent seen any rust spots thankfully on mine. I put a coat on just before our first freeze in an effort to avoid that. but i love th spring time detailing. it looks so good

Make sure you show this to Anna-chan, she had the same rusting on her car :P

My car has those rust spots all over the place, I just washed my car because its above freezing for once and noticed them and all my new rock chips from winter.

Yup, and being a detailer, it severly urks me to see that sort of thing on my car.

I'll PM her this thread link.

Those rust spots will be on ALL cars, just not as noticable on non white/silver/light colored cars.

the light/dark car paint has their own plus/minus

Light cars : + swirls don't show as easily / - dirt and rust spots show easier

Dark cars: + dirt and these rust spots don't show as easily / - swirls show easier

gotta love Klasse AIO.

The weather is being brutal on my car. On top of that, i have a full schedule and makes it hard for me to really sitdown and clean my car. a quick ONR wash is all i have time for =(

my rear hatch and bumper really need to be clayed. Its getting pretty rough in relationship to the other parts of the car, plus it doesnt bead water like th rest of the car either.

Lol I just talked to her on the phone and told her to send David a PM

LOL, I PM'ed her as soon as I was done posting above. LOL

exactly how mine were, the hatch was awful.

You can see how dingy the paint really is in the crevices of the Mazda emblem in the middle, it's grey. I wanted to removed it when I removed my MS3 badge, but those damn holes screwed with my plan.

what metal tab are you talking about for the headlight???

for the foglight bulb. If you look at yours closely, you'll see a dark metal "sleeve" around the bulb. You can roll it in on itself and bend back/forth to remove it to make your foglights useful (barely noticable before, much more light from the 9006 bulbs with that tab removed)

Nice hatch, man!

I'm not sure if this is what you meant to imply, but I doubt the rust spots are due to your winter wheel setup. It's likely rail dust from when the car was delivered.
For the remainder 5%, a clay bar of the entire car is in good order. Once you get all the rail dust off, the little spots will be gone forever.

Thanks!

It's not rail dust from when the car was delivered. I bought her in May of 08, I'm a detailer and I watch my paint very carefully. These rust spots started to appear once it got colder and I put the winter wheels on. It could very likely be from road salt, etc, who knows. I just know that the sides of my car were FILTHY when I put these +48 wheels on (until I got the Rally Armour mudflaps)

I know a clay will remove the rest, but since it's still Feb and I'm in IL, snow and salt can and likely will happen again between now and April/May, so I'll leave the proper spring detail for later. This was a quickie 1 step buff to A)remove the spots B) clean the paint thoroughly and C) add some extra protection to the paint until spring.

How big of a difference did you personally notice, as a car detailer, with the rallyarmors? I just put mine on, finally, Sunday.

it's noticably better with them on vrs off. The rear bumper still gets fairly dirty with them, but again, better than with none on.

I freaking love you. I was totally just about to PM you today. How long did this process take? Otherwise, how much do you charge?

the process that I did on my car this weekend took about 2.5 hrs start to finish. I'll PM you what I'd charge to do this. I think Ken wanted some detailing work done, so since it's a bit of a haul from my place to you guys, we can knock out both at once, or you can bring it by after the Sonic meet on the 21st. (cheers)

Well if you're already heading out... PM me too :D
