So, in that thought process, conversely, should Mazda/EPA/CARB
demand that a customer who bought a car in, say, 2014 that was not equipped with CD or i-stop bring their vehicle into the dealership four years later in 2018 to be retrofitted (at the car owners expense) with those features because that's what is needed to be compliant in 2018?
No, because Mazda manufactured that 2014 vehicle
in compliance with the regulations that were in effect
at the time of manufacture.
If the pendulum swings the one way and let's say the 2027 model is back to the "L" engine with no CD. Fine. If that's what you like and it's worth it to you, go trade in your car for the new one and folks who like the couple of mpg that i-stop and CD bring can look for your used car on the lot.
I'm no fan of these CD / i-stop features and own vehicles that do not have them on purpose.
