Deleting resonators and muffler?

:
2021 3 AWD 2.5T
I have seen a couple videos on youtube where MS3 owners have just deleted one of both the resonators as well as the muffler and gotten a nice sound to the car actually. IIRC srt4's only have cats and one resonator each so it doesnt seem like a bad idea... Albeit cheap lol

Criticism? Suggestions? Just seems ludicrous to spend $500 just for some sound and little gains.

I got rid of the resonators and the muffler for 40 bucks, and let me tell u it makes the biggist difference. I love the sound and the power gain. ! recomend doing it and also get rid of the second cat to.

im also interested in doing this...do you have any sound clips with all the resonaters removed and the cat?

i imagine this is because we dont want to mess with the stock exhaust. Right? becuz, ive been hearing that the DP/RP combo with stock exhaust, no cut resonators, gives good results and nice sound.

I don't understand how removing the resonators is going to do much except make it louder. Unless the factory resonator is a smaller ID than the exhaust tubing it connects to, there should be a negligible difference in the flow.

Not trying to say it's a pointless modification, but from a performance standpoint you can't trust your butt dyno.

I think he is looking for the sound of aftermarket exhaust w/o the cost of an aftermarket exhaust.

I personally couldn't justify the cost of aftermarket so I deleted both resonators and love the sound I have.

your correct but at the same time it is freeing up the exhaust and reducing back pressure so therefor the turbo will spool faster.

Are there any dyno graphs to show the difference? Objective comparison seems to be the best way to tell if there's a performance benefit here.

My very first car...I yanked the resonator on it. Droned a LOT while bumming around town and got on my nerves. I had one put in a month later. Fortunately cars are getting much quieter these days.

I don't think spending $500 for a catback exhaust is ludicrous. You have to obviously make it be just one part of a better exhaust SYSTEM. The catback by itself doesn't make an immense difference, but when you have a correctly matched downpipe, midpipe, and catback/muffler setup, it all works together to produce more power.

I haven't done it but I don't think there's much to be had by replacing/deleting part of the stock CBE. Exhaust wise, the best way to get a little extra noise and power is a test pipe, or get the cat cut out like I did at a muffler shop. All 'resonators' and 'mufflers' on the cat back are straight through...not sure which would have the biggest effects on sound, etc.

I would just remove 1 resonator and the muffler and see how you like it.If its not too loud you can go back and have the 2 resonator removed.Or you could get rid of both resonators and leave the muffler and see how that sounds..I have some sound clips with 1 resonator and muffler removed in my sig. Also there is a vid with a testpipe and 1 resonator and muffler removed.I think if you remove both resonators and the muffler and put in a test pipe it will be too loud.

No, you'll fail. It's illegal to modify or remove an emissions component on any OBD2 car (1996 or newer).

i want put test pipe can I still pass emission tes in ny?? any ideas , also want catted downppe

It will not throw a cel..The only way they can tell is if they look under your car.I would not worry about it,If they do look and see that you removed it go home and put the stock pipe back on and test again..I really dont think they will look tho since it will not have a cel.

You need to find out how the tests are done in your county. I say that because I have lived in states where it varied county to county. It may also depend on who does the inspection. If they bother to look under the car (unlikely) then you are out of luck. These days it seems that most places require a connection to the OBDII port and if there are no emissions codes you are good to go.

dparm is correct though, it is a federal offense to remove or alter a functioning catalytic converter. So accidentally put a little "not for use with catalytic converters" additive in your tank and be "forced" to replace the bad cats with hi-flow versions. "Honest, I have no idea what happened to them, they just started to stink and my mechanic said they needed to be replaced."

All emission tests are done via the OBDII port and not put on the dyno to test for smog anymore. You will be fine with a test pipe unless they look under the car.Hell even if they do look under the car do they really know how many Cats your car is suppose to have and where they should be,Im thinking not.

They only do that on OBD1 cars (in most states).

If you could please take the time to type legibly you will get more help.
