DEI Intake wrap worth it?

Lately since it's been getting warm outside I've noticed my intake pipe being extremely hot... It's because the fan is constantly blowing hot air right on the intake and causing it to get hot. I mean it feels as hot if not hotter than my hot side intercooler piping. So I was wondering if this DEI Intake Shield works well or is not worth it?

I mean could my intake being this hot decrease my performance that much? It seems like it does to me... specially with how boost kicks in, it just feels so hesitant to want to boost... maybe its other issues. I know its not my WGA because I replaced the stock one with the ATP and that one works so much better.

seems like it could never hurt in theory at least. I know some people question putting heatwrap on exhuast manifolds because its more likely to crack them or something, due to the heat. Then theres always the issue of 'does the product work'?? I mean, if its a good product i would consider using it not only for my intake but also my cold side pipe, at least at the point where it enters the engine bay and starts to get heated up from the ambient air.... i mean after a long drive you can reach down and feel it underneath the SRI and its cool to the touch, but up by the throttle body it gets warm just because of the huge amounts of heat and the general lack of airflow in the engine bay.

I'm sure having a really hot intake pipe can't help. Do you have a CAI or a SRI?? Especially if its a CAI, that means you're probably negating the bonus of having that extra piping to the fender well, so you've got the drawback of a CAI (longer piping and more bends), as well as the disadvantage of a SRI (hotter intake temps).

I've been thinking about the DEI wrap too for my headers. I bought them used, so aside from the performance gains (if any), it's partially cosmetic - they're pretty dirty!

edit: (doh) I just realized you were asking about the intake wrap, not the header stuff...nm...please continue your discussion :)

I have the Injen SRI, I converted it to SRI when I got my FMIC. I just noticed that the fan is blowing hot air on it constantly and its causing the intake pipe to get extremely hot.

Oh and I do have a vented hood so alot of the hot air gets vented out when Im at a stop.

Go to the hardware store and get some exhaust heat tape. It is silver with tape on one side. Wrap your cold and hot pipes and use zip ties to make sure the tape stays on really tight. Total cost about $9 with plenty left over if you want to wrap the intake. Works just fine. Before I did this could not touch the pipes after a run. After no problem. By the way forget about putting it on the cai, waste of time.

i know a better place where to geat heat wraps for many , hot side and other use but " if i tell you, i have to kill you first " :P

this things are try and see if it works so let us know if it does and how it goes
