Debating whether or not to get the MS3 GT..

Well not good but like I pay attention to the road when I drive I don't blast my music or text while I'm driving like a lot of teenagers.

i said the same thing wheni first started driving, until i got a system in my first car hahaha
and when i first got my speed3 i was like oh ill never talk on the phone or text while driving.. yeah after like a month or 2 and i had it down i was on the phone lol

Hahahah I know but luckily my mom's car that I drive right now has bluetooth.

I want to drive a manual but probably not for my first car. Maybe after I've matured and I have experience driving then I'll start driving a stick.

And at Saskatchewan17,

Was she impressed? (kiss)

Maybe she'll want to drive your stick ;) (butthump)

Haha... that's funny, no she just thought it was stupid that a car is stickshift... I've had other quotes from unsuspecting passengers like: "How are you doing this?", "Oh sweet it's a stickshift? That's awesome!" and I personally like, "Oh cool it's a stick? Do you drift it? You should, it's so much fun." I thought that one was funny.

Hahaha. I'm looking at the Mitsubishi Lancer Ralliart right now.. Shiftronics aren't too bad..

Not a horrible choice for straightline speed, but it's expensive, so is the GTI for that matter... I still say your best bet is the Speed3 and learning how to drive stick. Car and Driver has ranked the Speed3 one of their 10 best cars for 2 years and it has won every single comparison test is has ever been in in both C&D and Edmunds.com. (3 for 3 for each, which is an astounding comparison test record). It is just such a great little car, that you can't go wrong by getting it. And the latest comparison test the Ralliart has been in it finished dead last. Just get a speed3 and learn stick, trust me it is sooooooo worth it.

Oh, you must know the kid fairly well in addition to his family's financial status. Wait, you don't. (ugh)

I don't think I claimed to "know" anyone... (If you noticed, I used the phrase sounds like. ;))

I merely made an observation based on what was told to us:

-The kid is 16.

-His parents refuse to buy him a used car.

-They are considering spending ~$25K on a very performance-capable machine for a completely unexperienced driver who hasn't yet even mastered shifting for himself...

I don't think it's a stretch to draw the conclusion that I did. (dunno)

You're more than welcome to disagree with me, but it won't change my opinion on the matter.

Agreed. That car will almost certainly be totaled or badly bent within one year- tops.

Hi all.

The Mazdaspeed3 will be my first car and since it was a manual, I was wondering if I should still get this car. Is it hard to learn driving a manual? How would I even get it out of the dealership?

No one in my immediate family knows how to drive a manual, but my uncle said he could teach me.

I don't know any other cars that are really nice under $25k that I like..

Thanks for reading!

MS3 for you first car!! lucky guy

Yeah, I thought I was a good driver too when I just got my license. Then I rear ended someone a week later. You're not going to be a good driver until at LEAST a year later, probably more. You just need to encounter a lot more scenarios on the road before you know how to react to them immidiately and safely.

honestly no one is a good driver until they turn their license in, stop driving for the remainder of their lives, and had no accidents on their records.

Not that it's really any of my business, but why do your parents want you to get a new car? You've said that your parents are not "rich" so it would be a much better investment on their part to put you behind the wheel of something used until you get more experience. Get a used car and drive it for a year, then get a MS3. You will be thanking yourself later believe me!

Sure, I guess never being on the road is the only way to make sure you won't die on it. But it's also true that with time and practice people get better at reacting to different situations that come up on the road. I'll give you an example from my life: couple of months back I'm sitting in left hand turn lane waiting for my green arrow. It comes on, I leasurely start going... and then realise that the pickup flying towards me isn't stopping for his red light. I get so shocked that the guy is going to be so damn late for his light that I hit the brake and stop my car right in his lane like a dumbass deer in the headlights. He changes lanes and goes past me (he was literally 3 seconds late for his light), I come out of my freeze mode and drive off. After processing that whole situation in my brain for a bit it was obvious that I should have hit the gas instead of the brake so as to complete my turn faster and get out of his way. So now I'll be better equipped to handle a similar situation in the future.

Learning to drive the MS3 is a bit trickier than an average car... keep that in mind.

I got a fair bit of practice on my dad's Neon with his help before I tried driving the MS3. It even took my dad a minute to get used to and he's been driving standards on and off for decades.

I have to agree with this. I've been driving stick for 12 years now, all on an Integra GS-R. I just got a MS3 2 Wednesday's ago and when I test drove the demo, I stalled the car 3 times, felt so bad.

A week and a half later and I'm driving my MS3 smoothly.

I asked for help on deciding what car I wanted not to question whether I'm rich or not.

I'm saying I'm not but of course there's people who always ASSUME and draw to CONCLUSIONS.

My parents didn't want me to buy a used car because they think that it'd be full of problems. I can't change my parents mindset. Don't blame me.

I never said I was an experienced driver as I have had my license only for 3 months. However I said that I'm trying to have good driving habits.

I won't get the car until October or November depending on what I get on my SATs.

So please stop talking about my financial status because none of you know me. Get off my ass.

Thanks.

I agree, I know lots of parents who live in Section 8 housing and buy their 16 year old darlings brand new $25,000 cars. It's a shrewd move. You sure don't want to have your kid's ride break down on the way to pick up your food stamps...(headbang)

**let's keep this about the MS3 as a first car and not about his parents personal finance from now. Thanks

Fair enough; how about this:

Buying a 155 mph, 14 second car for a 16 year old kid with less than 8 months of experience behind the wheel is light years beyond stupid.

You are really ridiculous. I didn't say I was poor either.

How old are you?

You're bashing on a 16 year old "kid."

Oh your wife has a X3 she must be "rich."

And what makes kids driving mustangs any different? They're pretty fast too.

Plus I was saying I was looking at the Lancer Ralliart now.
