Debadge or Not to Debadge

I bucked the black trend, went with gunmetal.

I really like the gunmetal one. Where did you get it? Can you get one for the front too? And just how hard is it to swap?

I removed my stocker and dechromed it, then used Duplicolor Gunmetal Wheel Paint. Here's the front (color difference is due to lighting):

That's the exact setup I have, but with a black M instead. I've been considering an MPS badge lately in black to accent it, thoughts?

I think that would look killer...

And it looks like it belongs on the MS6 anyway. Good call Steve.

You all are way too hung up on image and looks ....

Only reason to debadge is for cleanliness (i.e., to clean). If you remove the stick-on badges you can actually clean and wax the paint better to prevent corrosion.

I think I am exactly the correct amount of hung up on image and looks...(lol2)

I debadged and painted my remaining emblems to express my individual taste through my vehicle, which I purchased ,in part, because I liked the way it looked.

I don't recall seeing a lot of cars rusting out around their emblems, but I suppose that's possible.

Again, not everyone takes the badges off, then blacks them out. It is a subtle change that not everyone will notice (Chip Foose-ish IMO).

I like being able to expand on the minor tweaks that make an MS6 stand out from a normal 6. With a set of all weather floor mats and a de-badge, there's nothing visible on an MS6 that lets people know you mean business, aside from aesthetic changes. That's never a bad thing in my book.

Oh, and I love the gunmetal badges. I gave some thought into doing a body color badge, but never got around to getting the paint to do so.

Something i saw that i really like was someone on the forum took the Mazda symbol and Mazdaspeed off the back and put the Mazdaspeed where the Mazda symbol use to be. Looks awesome IMO

Thanks, Steve. I think the gunmetal (I checked my rattlecan and duplicolor actually calls it graphite) really compliments the Ti Gray. I even thought about painting my stock wheels that color, but I'm on the fence about how it might look.

And Drover, there's someone I see around here in a non-speed 6 that removed their badges and has just the "6" where the rear flying M was. I like that too.

If it looks bad just repaint them. Its not a big deal.

In fact everyone here has their own "best" method for painting emblems. I recently saw a guy who simply spray painted right over the chrome emblem. Looked better / smoother than mine which I sanded for a good 30 min by hand.

Interesting that this came up, because I soon will be debadging the "Mazdaspeed 6" emblem, then taking off the Mazda emblems and using the paint code from the car (black mica) to have it match the car as well. Gives it a little bit of sleekness (if that is even a word), and even more sleeperness (again nto sure if its a work :P).

i just went with blacked out... i dont like chrome, but i still have mazda pride so i wanna at least give a little clue what it is...
(yes my sig picture is of when i was still stock, gotta fix soon. lol)

even with badges remaining, i guess black on black cherry is enough for people to not see it and ask wtf my car is... lol.
Steve, i still want a blacked out MPS to put on mine, but im sure as hell not spending $60 for one from SU. eegads.

Yeah I know how you feel batou, but even with the mazda badges I constantly get the, "wtf car is that?!" look or the "What?! That thing is turbo?" or the ever more annoying, "Damn dude, nice subi." Figured I would at least leave the blacked out Mazda badges so the people don't look as stupid when they ask. :P

I would debadge the M from the trunk if it wasnt posted. I would love that to be clean but not going to spend mone to have the holes filled and painted smooth

I removed the MAZDASPEED6 from the trunk lid and put the MAZDASPEED on the slim part of the dash above the glove box.. I'll post a pic up when I get home from work..

I am soon going to get the badgeless front grille and I don't want the rear M to be the only badge on the car.. I think it will look very odd for some reason.. I may see if I can get my neighbor to bondo and paint the holes for me..

Yeah I removed the Mazdaspeed 6 emblem but blacked out the flying M's. I have mazda pride. Mazdas are popular and have a unique look so most people know its mazda. An MPS badge would look cool. But just saved the money and went without it.

Me too. I'd love to have just the Mazdaspeed6 badge on the rear, but I'm not going to have it filled. I did my badges with Niteshades a few weeks ago.
