Hmmm, I have the same problem. The shifting was very notchy in the beginning, so I replaced the tranny fluid with some Royal Purple 75w-90. It helped the shifter slip past the notches better, but the feeling is still there. And most of the time it's very hard to get out of reverse. Plus the refusal at times to go into third. I'm starting to get used to it though, and allow for it when I need to shift fast.

Find a deserted road, and maintain 40 mph in 4th gear. Now shift into 3rd, and see how many rpm's the engine speed increased. At this speed, the difference won't be very much - maybe only a few hundred rpm. Go back into 4th gear. This time put the clutch in, push the lever to neutral and let the clutch back out. You are now coasting with the clutch out. Raise the engine speed to where it will be in third gear. Quickly push the clutch in, select 3rd gear, and let the clutch out. There should be no perceptible lurch if you accurately matched revs. Try the same thing at higher and higher speeds. As the road speed goes up, the speed difference between gears will go up as well. When going from 5th to 3rd a highway speeds, you may end up within 1000 rpm of redline. The easiest way of determining your maximum downshift speed is to watch the tach and speedo as you are shifting up at redline. If you shift at redline from 2nd to 3rd at 60 mph, subtract 10 mph, and that becomes your effective maximum downshift point for 2nd gear. If are within 10 mph, you are better off staying in the higher gear.

what do u mean it won't let u go in 3?

if u lift the clutch up when its in the syncro or to early when its not completly in gear it won't go into gear

I was having problems shifting into 1st the other day. It took 3 times for it slide in. It sucked, there were cars honking at me, and I couldn't go, and I just crawled in the back seat and curled up into my happy place.....made it all go away..

I was talking about upshifting to third, not downshifting. Speedshifting from 2nd to 3rd can be an adventure.

Tranny...WTF?!

I was going 89-95mph. on a straight away, on 215. As I was slowing down and coming to a stop light, I down shifted and threw her in neutral as I came to a stop. When the light turned green....the damn tranny would`nt let me go into gear:wtf: !!

After pumping the clutch 3 times, the tranny finally let me go into gear.

Has anybody else had this problem? What the hell is w/ this tranny? And some times I have to fight like hell to get out or reverse.

hey buddy, go trade it in or shut the **** up. the MSP is hardly a "POS" car...

Hey dex.....shad up! The reason I say this is that I have had to take it in 3 times for an o2 senor, 2 times for a coolant leak, another 2 for the clunk, and last but not least my hesitation. You know what dex your right this car isnt a POS:rolleyes:. I love my car ALOT th looks, the handling, and the awesome black mica color. Even my dealer said I could have a lemon....but I didnt give up on it, I kept with it. It has been a real nightmare....its runs fine now.... but damn I have had the car 2 months....and it spent a whole month in the dealership. Also you are only seeing hesitation on your MSP....so unless you know my personal situation....you shut the **** up. I havent even talked to you on this board and you come back with a post like this :wtf: . I have no problems with you...but if yoiu want to be an asshole do it to someone else.

BTW: the day I posted that I had just got it back from the dealer.

its when upshifting to 3rd that I am referring to. At random times, sometimes when driving hard, other times when drivin like a grandma. Its like there is no 3rd gear. I slide it forward and there like a wall there where the gate to 3rd should be. because it happens to randomly and when it does my chief concern is getting it into gear so I can continue driving I havent been able to scientifically narrow down exactly what I have to do in the end to get it into gear.....

want to know the reason? the synchro. i think it only has one synchro from 2nd to 3rd. the whole transmission needs beefier synchros, also replacing the shifter bushing helps.
