Deals Gap (NC) Meet April 21st-22nd

Everyone who wants a room PM me me with a request.

She approved the $30 rate, so that stands. Just remember hotel tax is more than sales tax, here in TN it's 17.25%. It'll be $36.27 after taxes.

They have either single queen beds, or two twin size beds.

Comes with a light continental breakfast, free wireless internet, free local and long distance, and free membership to a large Gym/workout facility during your stay.

I'll get with my GF to arrange everything.

You're the man, KJ. Put me down for a 2-twin room on Sat. night. I wasn't planning on staying over since I'm only 90 min. from K-ville, but for that price, why not? PM me if need be. A friend of ours is getting married on Friday (thank God not Sat.) that weekend, which almost screwed my plans, but it worked out. I'll be heading that way early Sat. and bringing a buddy with me.

I'm so excited about running the Dragon that I can't stand it. My new Espelir springs just showed up, and they're hopefully going to correct my problem with overlowering on the Goldlines/Illuminas and get my roll couple more back in line. I have drilled rotors w/ Carbotech's, but original stock fluid. Will that be an issue? I don't ever typically push my MSP beyond 80-90% and am easy on brakes, but I don't know if I should upgrade the fluid.

OMG, I can't wait. FWD FTW!

When I changed out my rotors to drilled and slotted, I swapped over to DOT4 fluid...its helped a lot, Ive noticed a more precise braking and my car doesnt slide or screech to a stop anymore, it just stops lol. The weekend we changed them out, I got rear ended by my boy Junior, because he usually follows me, but wasn't used to me stopping so fast, and so I now have a nice hole in my back bumper, oh well.

But ya, try DOT4.

Chris

Hey guys.

I'm from chattanooga, and I run with the bimmerforum.com guys. We're making a little run up to the gap leaving out at 7am. Maybe I'll see/meet some of you guys up there.

**BRENT**

Hey guys. Short notice, but I am going to make it after all. Things have been nuts, including a wedding and reception last night that I had forgotten about. I just swapped my Espelir front springs in and am leaving my Goldlines in the rear... a buddy who was going to go with me and had bailed just showed up at the house unannounced and is drunk and ready to head up there! Good thing, because I was about to start on the rears and head up there in the morning. I checked and the rear spring rates are close enough that I should be fine.

Anyway, I'll be leaving Chattavegas in an hour or so. I think we're going to stay on the N. end of 129 just a bit outside of Knoxville tonight. There's a great place to hang out up there. If anyone wants to party tonight or just say "hi", don't hesitate to call my cell at 423-718-5118. Otherwise, I'll be seeing you guys at the Gap around noonish.

I got back a couple of hours ago. I'm still almost speechless, which takes a lot. Today was an epiphany. Driving Deals Gap, aka the Tail of the Dragon, was one of the most incredible experiences of my life. Myself and my buddy can't wait to go back. He summed it up perfectly: "F--k Six Flags, this a 15-minute long roller coaster ride." To top it off, it was a perfect day... 78 degrees and not a cloud in the sky. The scenery is an incredible cherry on top.

For those that have driven it, enough said. For those that haven't, I'll post more info once I'm rested up. A day driving the Dragon will truly wear your ass out.

How was the traffic? I heard the Rotary meet was this weekend as well. I figured that place would be a parking lot from all the cars.

I saw less than 10 Mazdas total all day on Sunday.

Update: I'm going back up to the Dragon on Sunday. My buddy and I are actually going up Sat. evening and will stay in Alcoa on Hwy. 129 Sat. night just to get an early jump on Sunday. The weather will be ideal and we should get a couple of good traffic-free passes in on Sunday morning before everyone shows up.
Again, if anyone is thinking about going, feel free to call me at 423-718-5118. -Scott

Also, pics are up on Killboy's site for the day I was running the Dragon. Some of the pics turned out awesome, and I'm ordering several 8x10's and even a t-shirt of one of them. Go to www.killboy.com and view photos for Sunday April 22nd. It's not hard to spot the Spicy in the many thumbnails, lol.

Although I haven't fully updated my original post, and don't really have time to, let me say this:

This stretch of road is nothing less than a slice of heaven. I've searched all my life for a road like this. My first time driving it was so significant an event in my life that it compared only to the first blowjob I got. Words can't describe what it's like. I'm still working on pulling the video from the camcorder and putting it together in a presentable package, but even that can't possibly convey what it's like driving this stretch of US 129. Those that have driven it know what I'm talking about.

129 is great.

I worked down at the grill there for a while, and had the priveledge to ride/drive that road everyday, multiple times for a while.

What I love about that road is it is the great equalizer. I've passed cars worth 100K in a stock Dodge Neon. Out there it is all driver.

Lol, I hear ya. Although I did pretty damn good for my first time around (for not having any autoX or track experience), I still have a lot to learn about 129. It definitely has its own character. There was a guy from Knox county in a white Ford Focus sedan that I had a hard time keeping up with on certain stretches. He has his suspension set up specifically for that road.

How awesome that you got to drive it that often! I'm so jealous.

Hey, any tips on avoiding the cops? I didn't see any on the TN side last Sunday, but I'm reading more on the Deals Gap forum and seeing references to the cops being pretty sneaky... like hiding in the woods with camcorders.

Just got up here in Alcoa. Overslept a bit. I think we're actually still drunk from last night. As if the Dragon wasn't challenging enough as it is... w00t!

I PMed you a great locals site...

That road is all about knowledge, you have to know what turn is next so you can make your line set you up for the next turn, and then set up that line for the line on the next turn, and on, and on, and on...
