April 21st-22nd

Ok we are going to terrorize the twisties once again. This will be a blast so please try to come out if you are anywhere close to the area. You can PM me for details also.

The central meeting spot will be the Biltmore Square mall in Asheville, NC on the Belks side. Please cordnate your caravan from the following areas to meet up in Asheville by 10AM. We will be leaving the mall around 11AM.

Raleigh/Druham/Cary/Chapel Hill
Greensboro/Highpoint/Winston Salem
Charlotte/Concord/Kannapolis
Clemson/Spartanburg

Please be sure to bring your two way walkies with you as there will be NO cell phone service for 20 miles before and after and while you are in the Gap. If you don't have one... Partner with some one who has an extra or you can get them at Target for no more the 30/40$ for two. This will be essental for us to communicate while we are in the Gap.

Please try to make hotel resservations early. We will be staying in Knoxville, TN this time around. I would suggest to save cost... Partnering up in room and spliting the room cost.

Other things to consider bringing...

Warm clothes (sweat shirt)
cooler with drinks
snacks
camera and film
money
a friend

This is one of those things I used to love to do with the miata club! I will definitely be riding up there with the GACC crew!!!

The Atlanta S2000 club members drive the Dragon every year too. I have only gone twice with my S2000 since I bought it in 2001.

It is a blast!!

No idea how much truth there is to this, but I've read it in more than one place so far:

If that is true, THAT SUX!!!

I used to go to deals gap all the time with my miata and motorcycle clubs and have been stopped at many road blocks but they never do anything more than check your license / insurance. I have even been pulled over 2 times at deals gap and the officer just told me I needed to slow down and let me go with a warning!

I am going regardless... just have to keep our eyes open. I don't plan on getting too crazy anyway. Year before last, we lost a MSP there on the way to NOPI. I ain't losing mine. He flipped it and almost went all the way off... lucky but unlucky.

I got this from the S2000 Website

From Tailofthedragon.com:

BULLETIN: We have received numerous emails concerning the recent posting on the Internet by a supposed Tennessee Highway Patrol Trooper warning of dire consequences on the Dragon this coming year for speeders. We do not post rumors on this site so we contacted Captain Ray Fletcher of the Knoxville Division Tennessee Highway Patrol. He confirmed as we had believed that some of the details in the post are completely false, such as the immediate arrest and impoundment of vehicles for speeding over 50 mph on the Dragon.

Captain Fletcher was not able to comment on whether or not the post was made by a Trooper, but some of the language, unusual statements and obvious errors as stated above make us believe the post was by someone other than who supposedly signed their name and position to it. Obviously a real Trooper would not jeopardize his job by signing such a post.

Captain Fletcher stated that the laws will be enforced on the Dragon as they are on all Tennessee roadways. Tail of the Dragon advises riders to obey the laws and they will have no trouble with the Tennessee Highway Patrol or Blount County Sheriff Deputies.

We will post relevant news as it occurs in the coming year. Watch for continuous updates.

... hehe... cool. After all, this is the Internet... of course everything you read is true isn't it? (rofl)

Sounds awesome, this will be my first Mazda meet if I get to go.. pretty certain on it!! ;) I'm located in Clayton, GA if anyone wants to meet up.. if you're in GA more than likely you'll be coming right through my area.. 85N to 985 to 23/441.
