Dealer just quoted me $1050 for timing belt and water pump

95/hr is insane....most shops charge 50 and i think that is a lil insane....especially when they go by the book hours and not actual...

i got quoted 500 just to change the belts(pc/alt) and the belts were like 40 and it took me an hour....

on side note....out water pumps are 200? really? **** me running

I second what a previous poster said, labor rates vary a lot by region. The norm may be $50/hour in Texas, but here in Iowa you're lucky to find a place under $75/hour. I have a mechanic buddy in New York who works at a dealership where they charge $145/hour!

As for a $200 water pump, that's ridiculuous. Onlinemazdaparts has them listed at MSRP for$110 - and that's before their discount!

yeah....i agree with everyone prices vary but when they charge like 100/hr for labor and probably go of the master book or ripoff(labor) instead of actuall time

if i ever have to take in my car i will sit and watch them and time their work...like i siad before it took me an hour to change my belts without ever doing them on my car before....and i think the master book calls for 4 hours....wtf ever
