Dead pedal question

Hi guys/gals,
Quick question on an automatic 04 hatchback. Not at home to dig into it and check right now, but does anyone know if the dead pedal/foot rest is removable under the carpeting? My wife needs to have a left foot gas pedal installed and space is pretty tight in there.

Okay, found time today for anyone else who may stumble on this and have the same (for some reason) question. Yes, the dead pedal is removable but it is by no means easy to do and have look correct. It is made of a heavy styrofoam that runs all the way to the center console and is under a molded piece of sound deadening rubber. The carpet is also molded to fit correct and getting it to flatten is almost if not impossible. For those of you who decide you need or want to do this...good luck.
