Daytime Running Light Module

Hi everyone. I'm new to this site as I just purchased a 2005 Mazda 6. The question is: I need to replace the headlight module with one that has daytime running lights. I live in Canada and just imported the car from Florida. I ordered the module from the Mazda dealer here in Ontario. I don't have the part yet so I don't know what it looks like or where it is. I looked in the fuse box under the hood and found the headlight relay but I don't think that is what I'm looking for ,although if that was it , it would be an easy replacement. The module cost $236 so, I doubt the relay I found is it. I quickly looked under the dash, above the brake/clutch/gas pedal and didn't see anything obvious. The parts guy at Mazda said the US part looked the same as the Canadian part so I assume I would just swap the two. Any advice/help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Homer.

Can you take a picture of the module for us. I am form Florida, so I have no personal experience with the DRL module, but I'm willing to take a shot at it.

Canadian Tire stores have module for $28 and you can do it yourself.
no need to connect all the wires, connect only green wire to light and you will pass, rest can stay isolated. and the wire that is going to spark plug may be connected to any fuse that gets power only after you crank the ignition so the lights will shut with car.

or i was told by RIV center inspector that you can go to the mazda dealer and they can change it on the cars computer system.

The DRL module is incorporated inside a blue box that is visible underneath the dash behind the steering wheel. I don't think you will be able to add DRL on the car, I think it uses a different wiring harness. I live in Ontario and I disabled my DRL because I did a Retrofit. If you can add the DRL just by changing the blue box, I would have gotten the 2006 one, that way you can install HID in the low beams without an issues as the DRL are the high beams for +06. I wired in my own form of DRL in my lower fogs which are controlled by a switch, I just leave the switch on when I'm driving.

If you have an questions regarding the installation of the lighting control module (the blue box) send me a PM and if you are located within 1.5hours of Toronto I"ll come by and give you a hand.

I was wondering guys. I got my car, here in Canada, but it is a US car. DRL module or whatever was already installed in it. But thing with it, is that basically, I have my low beams on all the time, as well as dash lights in the interior and tail lights. So basically my DRL lights mode - Low beams switch ON all the time. So when i move that switch nothing happens, and I don't see difference during night, which drives me crazy.
So the question is, how do I install A NORMAL DRL mode or module or whatever, so that I have my high beams ON all the time only, no tail lights, and no dash lights, while when I switch low beams switch into ON, it would turn my low beams on, and dash lights on.
Funny thing, is that, when engine is not started, but keys are in the ignition, it acts, 100% as a normal car - NO DRL, and lights switch works perfectly - in OFF position - no lights, in middle position - parking lighs and dashboard lights only, and in on position - low beams are on.
My car is mazda 6 GT v6 2006. Please guys respond, i've been driving like that for year already, i am not mechanic, but find myself to be able to do stuff no problem with explanations :))) Please help.

I wonder if they screwed around with the handbrake sensor. That isn't the normal Canadian operation of the car, if you are local to Toronto I'd be more than happy to help you out getting it to work properly.

I wired my own sort of DRL with my lower fog lights. It's really up to you how you want to go about making it work if you want to do something different.

This is what my car looks like when I'm driving during the car or rather anytime.

Here is a photo with the lowbeams on.

I still have independent control of both at any time.

The lower fogs are just regular H3 bulbs in Ion Yellow.
