Day 1 and my exhaust is coated with soot! Normal? (and breakin question)

Unfortunately, literacy is not so important anymore. Blame that on our crappy education system and the FCAT.

Actually, I mostly blame parents for that. I have a 7 year old daughter that can read anything you put in front of her. She may not understand all of the words or meanings, but she can read anything. She can also write and spell most words that she uses on a daily basis.

Why she can do this is mostly because my wife and I worked with her over the past few years. No, she is not home schooled. We just always made learning a priority for her, and now she thoroughly enjoys it.

That said, half of her first grade class is borderline retarded. The teachers do their best to get the students caught up, but they showed up to first grade barely knowing their own names. For this I blame the parents. Too much Wii, not enough reading, writing, etc. Don;t get me wrong, we have a Wii and my daughter loves it, it just comes after homework.

Sorry for the rant, I am just sick of parents who do nothing for their kids and blame everyone else when they are way behind my kids in school. It's up to you to ensure your kids do well in everything they do.

I gave up on trying to polish it all the time because I drive it around the block and it blacks out again, so I just let it build up and turn the whole thing black to match the black-on-red color scheme. ;)

Nahhh, I do wash it here and there. Its normal so Im not so worried about it, but I really need to get a tune so I can adjust that air/fuel ratio. Stuff drives me insane.

you said it.

My mom made sure I spoke clearly, used proper english and grammar, and formed sentences correctly. I still struggle with the latter. She told me that I may grow up to be an idiot, but I won't sound like one. :)

My highschool teacher once failed me on a grammar paper because even though all the sentences were grammatically correct, they made no sense. I was bored and decided to have fun by making sentances that were funny and pointless but made sure to use proper grammar. He didn tlike that. ****** commie.

Just proof that you dont have to sounds smart to be smart. ;)

..... though I dont think thats SwampAss' case. ;) lol

Grammer is over-rated on the internet. As long as you get your point across and it's not a resume, paper, important document, etc. then who cares.

Blame it on the parents, thats right. I'm just lazy and don't care if i am grammatically correct. Its a car forum. Seriously.

I might start another off topic argument, but it seems everyone always has someone or something to blame for their short comming (in this case reading and writing of people). no one can just take the blame for themselves.

What did Teddy say? "The buck stops here."

While I generally agree with that statement, sometimes people's posts are hard to read because the grammar or spelling is just so bad. I also to feel that anything I say or type is a reflection on me, and therefore have decided to speak and type in a manner that I think reflects my intelligence.

It's hard not to read some of these posts littered with misspellings and poor grammar and not think of the poster as less intelligent than they may actually be. I try, but I often fail.

I couldn't agree more.

I have had numerous college students turn in poorly written (both grammatically and otherwise) papers and then complain when I took off points. Keep in mind these were all science courses. Despite this, I don't think that is an excuse for poor writing. They would often protest, "This isn't English!" I would reply, "You are in college, and you need to write like an educated person." The protests would usually end there. If not, I would ask them to bring in a journal from JAMA, National Geographic, Scientific American, or the like, and ask them if the articles were sophomorically written simply because they were "science" articles. End of discussion....
