Although, I have had my MAZDASPEED on the highway, it has only been for short distances; that is until yesterday. I drove to Camden, TN which is about 120 miles from where I live. I was heading over to a friend of mine's house to install the Blitz Dual, and hard wire my Escort Passport 8500. Approximately 90 miles of it is I-40 toward Nashville.
This car is fantastic on the highway. I reached 110mph on a couple of occassions, but I wanted more. It felt so good. Not a lot of radar setup yesterday, either. At one point, I was coming up on a camper (I was at about 80mph - speed limit 70), in the right lane, and he was behind a semi. I made a move to the left lane; the semi is exiting, and all of a sudden the camper makes a quick decision, and he goes to the left lane right in front of me; I hit my brakes, and you would not have believed the sound the BOV made - like a giant f*$king turkey under my hood!
In this car; it is nothing to downshift to 4th gear at 80mph, and just pull ahead. Good fun! Then; I would typically go to 5th @ 100mph. Okay! So; I'm easily amused :wtf: .
So now: The Blitz is installed, following the sorry ass instructions Blitz (shouldn't even bother to) provide. Plus, we referenced Britt's (122 vega) instructions. The boost gauge is fine, except for one thing; it doesn't display psi?! :bs: It displays kilopascals. Why? I have no clue. Christ! I am a simple man. I have no time for silly conversions. But; I shall deal with it (and learn something new).
We also wired the emergency brake switch. This is in case someone were to try to steal it while it is idling (turbo timer), when the brake is released, the car shuts off, rendering it, obviously un-stealable, since you took the key with you.
Now; it would appear all is well. Like I said; the Blitz instructions aren't good (piss). After the car ran, we shut it off, removed the key. At this time; the Blitz display flashed between red and green lighting as it counts down (which is the length of time the car will idle after you remove the key). Also; if the stereo is on, or the fan switch, these also remain on (at least in my situation). When the timer reaches '0', everything shuts off.
However,,,,,,,for some reason my engine doesn't continue to idle. It shuts off after the key is moved. We think we wired everything correctly; but even after playing with the Blitz, we still cannot get it to 'play fair'.
Any ideas on this, are greatly appreciated.
I have posted some photos of the Blitz display (same location as Britt's), and of the Passport install. I am 6'4", and the display mounted there is really good. Just a glance, and you can see it.
PassPort 8500 Smart Module (on the pillar)
The power wire leading to the Passport 8500 is tucked between the dash and the base of the windshield. So, at the center of the windshield, it comes up the glass to attach to the Passport. Since I am not using the Escort ZR3 Laser Shifter (for ultimate Laser defense - $500), Escort (Passport) recommends keeping the Passport lower on the windshield, so it has a better chance of picking up Laser. Apparently; when Laser is used, it is aimed at the bumper area, and the Laser doesn't break up much over distance; so the lower you have your detector, the better chance you will have of detecting it. The Passport 8500 does detect everything from the front and the rear, by the way. So far; I have not detected any Laser in our area.
Also; And I mention this because music is very close to my heart; Camden, TN is the town where Patsy Cline's airplane crashed on March 5th, 1963. I went to the crash site and took some pictures. If anyone would like to see them; here is my Shutterfly link. In one, you will notice my car. Yesterday March 1st; they were having a Patsy Cline festival in Camden. They have done this for several years now. Patsy Cline was one of the great female vocalists of all-time. The music will live on. Personally; I'm not much into country music, but she was different.
