So u got scared and sold me the unichip, lol
Amy did you notice how high boost spike hit. I was reading 13, then settling down to 10. You know how my luck is. Im seriously considering not ever installing the ebc.

damn sorry to hear, i'm hoping this doesn't happen to me, i'm running 10 psi daily.

that is how the unichip is designed to spike at 13 then settle at 10.

Sounds to me like he did all the right mods to make some good HP that our engines can't handle. I also think he wasn't using 93 octain. I stare at my A/F gauge lately cause of cars like this. I have never ever even once seen my car go lean while my foot is in it at about 9-spike to 10 Psi.

ah i sold the unichip b.c if i build the engine im going to get something more tuneable lol .....i never installed the ebc with the unichip, i just used my mbc the whole 3 months i had the unichip lol

I have never heard of a blown engine with the unichip. I would like for you to name me three MSP that are blown that did not either have a Joep MBC or FCD (or both). Really. Big threadjack. Find me three.

there are a few that have blown on stock boost
sounds like your trying to point fingers at JoeP, any boost controller can cause someones engine to blow. The Fuel Pressure Reducer he was using is intened for stock boost.
you pay to play, and if you blow your engine its your fault and nobody elses
Mazda is going to give Project_MSP a one finger salute when he asks them to fix his engine under warrenty, they will probably quote him at $7000 to put a new engine in

Put all the supporting mods on planet earth on and you're still running the risk of blowing that sucker up with the stock bottom end. Its just not strong enough.

Yes, boost controllers, FCD's and FPR's have directly caused most of the popped MSP engines. A FEW stock ones have blown up, but that's going to happen with any car- a certain percentage of engines just fail- even without FI.

I'm not blaming Joep. It's your own fault if you put that on your car. I'm asking you to find me three.

I remember reading about at least one motor popping with unichip installed. Also, why even mention the joeP products? There are plenty of companies making MBCs and also FCDs.

I have been running about 10 psi for about 45,000 miles on an otherwise stock motor. I have run it at 15psi for about 500 miles before I got too scared.

I just meant I dont think Ill be installing the ebc that came with my unichip.
Never mentioned any brands. If anyone wants to boost high and make big power w/o going forged, I think we bought the wrong car.

I have to ask 2 questions.
Were you using stock plugs or 1 step colder?
Did you hear any detonation while boosting over 9 psi?
because there were no mention of either of these and that could contribute to boom status as well as not using 93 or higher octane.
I have been running 10-11 psi for about 5,000 miles now (knocking on wood) with no problems as of yet also i don't wait until it's time for an oil change, I change quite often depending on how much I mash the pedal, because even though synthetic oil is made to last longer than dino oil it still breaks down form the excessive heat that the turbo builds.

With a MBC I would keep tabs on the boost gauge. FCD and FPR are only for people who really know what they are doing. I wouldnt take the cheap way out by buying manual parts. Need somethign that you can keep tabs on. I say a WB O2 is a good investment for anyone who wants to boost. having supporting mods is one thing its another thing to have things to monitor your car.

With a good electronic boost controller you could have set which RPM to be boosting XX pounds. Like unichip boost 12 psi and bleeds off to 10 psi. You cant really do that with a manual boost controller. Only thing I did not like aobut unichip is that it was pre-tuned and you cant really find anyone to custom tune it. the product is designed to work anywhere but not all places are created equal...i.e me at below sea level and someone living in denver.

And oil spilling out? Where did it come from? Boched oil job? What happened? Threw a rod?

yeah... time == turbo timed

i was running around 8-9 psi without the turbo back. upped it a little for the night ride home... oh well. I'm about to take off to the dealership to see what happened. btw... i was in 2nd gear and **** if i know what rpm... those things fly by in my car :)

the turbo timer doesnt do anything for the engine. its only there for the turbo

I still think he basically had too many mods, running too high pressure without forged internals.

I'm thinking when you go CAI, Exhaust, over 9.5ish Psi, low grade fuel....and drive it real hard, you get pop. Guys even a cheese Autometer A/F gauge tells me I'm rich as hell at top boost.

why take it to the dealer??? you know what they're going to say....thats a waste of time and money right there....either sell the car or rebuild it yourself.

If you want to buiy a shortblock I'll swap it over for you for a fee.
