Damn speed limiter

i looked up my old Car and Driver, says the speed limiter kicks in at 132 only on the MSP

Ditto electronically limited NOT drag or gear limited.

Hey, a bit off topic yashooa, but if I remember correctly u got the flash done a while back. I see you are running 12psi - do u hit fuel cut or no? Thanks.

Lame, they ruined the tradition...

Why limit it at that? Maybe the LSD doesn't like anymore?

But a whole 10 mph from electronically governed vs gear doesn't make much sense to me...

TEAMZERO: your crazy man, that kinda speed isn't enough to make you wanna put a seatbelt on? although, i guess at that fast your prolly ****** anyway! DAMN!!

I tried it to get past 136 a few times on that trip but each time the fun was done at 136 exactly. WOuld have taken the 136 picture but you want both hands on the wheel when the limiter kicks in so grabbed the 134.

You are right though. No belt is dumb. Like an ass, I forgot to put it back on when I was fumbling around for the camera a few miles back.

Yep a limiter with "Z" rated tires no less. WTF?

Yes I have only hit boost cut once. I was just driving along at 40 MPH in 3rd and it cut on me for a sec during mild acceleration.
NOT fun.
Most of the time it does not do it. I was considering a FCD from Joey but I am kinda scared of frying my ECU.

Yashooa, turn your A/C on and accelerate from 2000rpm in 4th gear and let me know if you hear any detonation. I get plenty of detonation at 8psi with the A/C on.

Yeah...but Braden, Yash is probably running 93 (not 91). I wonder too, if the extended reach plugs, you're using could be contributing to said detonation.

I'll be changing them out soon, I've been running a ton of fuel on them for the past 2000 miles so a fresh set wouldn't hurt.... maybe i'll stray and buy a set of these non extended ones to test out.... I'm also running a .028 gap on mine...

132 isn't fast enough for you??!!!???!!!

how much faster do you want to go for God's sake?? Where on earth are you finding a stretch of road long enough to pull this off??

come to south oklahoma or texas, theres plenty. the speed limit is 75 and you can see for about 20 miles sometimes.

Yeah...I'm changing the plugs fairly soon. I think I'll be buying them this evening...have a round of stores to hit (best buy for the matrix reloaded, Advance or walmart for Mobil 1 and a filter, etc...)

I'm still a bit confused as to what changing the gap will do. Shorter gap should equal better spark, but it starts before the spark from .032 would right? So it's a little like advancing the timing a minute amount when you lower the gap. This is all off the top of my head, so please feel free to educate! :D

hey braden, you don't have the stock ecu running your engine, so is there still a speed limiter?

When I'm not tuning I usually leave the stock ecu running for the closed loop fuel savings. I'm working on my boost maps right now as opposed to my cruise maps.

When I am running the haltech I do not have a speed governor because I control the fuel maps to my own RPM limit. The Speed governor cuts Fuel, however it does not cut timing... the timing maps in the MSP are clear past 7500rpm.

Changing the gap smaller is meant for cars running high enough boost to "blow out" the spark from a normal gap. I don't think .032 is wide enough to blow out under 10psi. But I run .028 just in case. It doesn't advance the timing, the spark still comes at the same time and burns the same amount of time.

Ah...I see, now. Thanks, B!

Back to your regularly scheduled topic.

130 is plenty fast...I don't feel like going faster...or well...that fast on a public road, again. I wouldn't mind it in a time trial, though.

Many people still feel this is a drag issue, but without CFDs to back it up, I couldn't ell you for sure. Theoretically, if you were drag limited you would ht top speed and just not be able to go faster; you shouldn't be yanked back down a few MPH and be able to accelerate. Of course...that's theory.

just a thought... maybe the tranny needs to be a 6 speed to go faster?? maybe it's the gears that limit you to that speed.. but of course i could be wrong.. :)
