hey yall i now have a kenwood ddx8017 but i ran into a problem, it has the "safety" feature that wont let you play a dvd while in motion, does any1 know of a way around the "safety" features

Usually they have a switch that is installed near the parking brake handle to activate only when it's lifted.

Might be near the shifter in an automatic, so it can tell when it's in Park, but I'm not sure.

Either way, I'm sure you could just just modify it a little so that it is always in the "Parked" position.

i have the pioneer and all you have to do is ground out the e-brake wire. i dont know about the kenwood but i am sure their is some simple trick like that. did you install the hu your self? if so did you have to run a wire to the e-brake?

some new units wont play the dvd when they receive a signal from the speed sensor wire...this is on Nav units.

no i didnt install it myself and it only does it whenever i take of the e-brake, i.e. if the car is in drive and the e-brake is activated then it will work just fine

and no i dont have the nav. activated on it. cause with the kenwood you have to buy the adapter, but thanks that is good to know info

ya then all you have to do is ground out the line that tap's into your e-brake line (the one that turns the brake light on!)

so by saying grounding it out you do mean to disconnect the wire that goes to the e-brake and just attach it to its own ground (bolt) and it wont make it difference other than the "safety" feature deactiviation

that is what i did. read out the wire it is hooked to first. with the e-brake applied and your key on acc is that wire a ground, or does it have 12 volts? then disengage the e-brake and see what happens. i found that with my e-brake on the wire became a ground (same ur's will be if they hooked it to the same wire) so all i did was grounded out the wire from the dvd deck and mine screen always works!!

btw here in WA it is a 1200 dollar fine for having a movie playing in view of the driver!
