im looking to upgrade my headlights and was wondering if anyone here has done so. i have stock hids but i feel they are not strong enough. i really like the look of blue in the lights. my father drives an audi allroad and they look amazing, i love driving it at night just to watch everything brighten so nicly. anyone with pics can always help to. thanks in advance

whats the rating of the stocks? i am also looking for replacement bulbs. I have an aftermarket HID kit but i want a whiter bulb than what i have right now. I have 6500K and i am looking for something around 400)K

i think 6500 is the brightest white you can get if you get and lower they get weaker and yellow and if you go higher they get blue. i had a 7000k helios kit for my old car and they were pretty blue. but thats with a kit, i feel like the bulbs are different for some reason

actually i believe that 4000K - 4500K is the whitest you will get. Thats what luxury cars usually come with stock (BMW, Lexus, Etc). I have 6500K and it is not blue, it has a tint to it but not enough light output.

Uh 4100k-4300 is the whitest white you'll get anything above that you'll start going blue and then purple. Stock/OEM/Factory HIDs on all cars come with 4100-4300K bulbs.
Does your dads allroad flicker blue? Its because of the cutoff on the lense not because fo the bulbs. If you look from inside onto the road the color is white. But if you look at it directly you'll see the blue flicker.
Mazda 3 hid projectors dont' give the best color on the cutoff but a couple peeps have swaped out their lense with clear lenses and used washers to modify the sheild to give alot more color at the cutoff.

Here some pictures.

Heres OEM Mazda 3 projectors with washer mod for more color:

I borrowed those from Ruff so don't get mad if you see that man!

Heres a Evo8 lense swap on OEM Mazda 3 projectors borrowed from Say Chi Sin Lo.

See you can have the best of both worlds best light output with 4100-4300k bulbs as well as plenty of color.
Anything else let me know.

yeah where can we get some replacement bulbs with 4100K rating

I haven't seen many "hid kits" with 4100k rating.
But if you want you would probably have to get some OEM ballast which take D2S bulbs and use those instead of your hid kit. All you would need to make that fit onto the H7 projector is a D2S to H7 adaptor which cost ~$20.

does anyone here have a mazda3 with stock hids that replaced their stock bulbs with higher temp bulbs?

Could you explain this a little more for me? i already have an HID kit installed, why would i need a new ballast? And why do i need a D2S to H7 adapter? cant i just find H7 bulbs?

Now i think about it more, i already have the kit so i only need the D2s bulbs to be replaced right?
i found this place with decent pricing:

http://www.xtralights.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWCATS&Category=5

but also found some on ebay for about $90 a pair shipped. Are all D2S the same size? I also wanted to replace my High Beam bulb with a whiter Halogen bulb, like the Sylvania Cool Blue. Mostly causei hate the color differnece betweenmy low and highs.

D2S has a different type of base like H7. You wouldn't be able to use those with your current ballast. I'm pretty sure your current bulbs from the kit has 2 wires sticking out of it with a rebased H7 bulb.
If it is like that the only thing you can do is to find a 4100K bulb thats rebased to H7 with the 2 wire connection.

Since illusis already has OEM hids he could easially change his bulb with a regular D2S bulb he has the right connections and the projector is made to fit the D2S base(not H7).
If you really really wanna go up in K try Philips Ultinon D2S bulbs. Search it up.

im still not understanding completely.
The kit i got came with D2S bulbs (i am pretty sure) and they fit in no problem. There are 2 wires sticking out that get plugged in the ballast. Wont all D2S bulbs be the same and fit the same way?
From what you say I guess the answer is not. That sucks, where would i find such bulbs? You say the D2S conversion to H7 is only like 20 bucks?

Problem is you don't have a D2S connector. Yes its a D2S bulb but the base is an H7 base to fit your projector. Real HID projectors have D2S holders yours has an H7.

You see the red thing in the picture below. Thats a connector to a true D2S bulb. Way different then yours.

Look at the bulbs below those are D2S bulbs theres no wires coming out to plug into your ballast.

hahaha
thaks a lot for taking the time to educate and not hate

actually i understand what you are saying now, i just had never seen an actual D2S bulb, and thew pictures on websites look the same as the ones i got on my car right now. I see what you are saying now.
Now, if it wasnt for the wires, the base of the D2S looks a lot like the H7 one, cause it fits just fine in my housing,, except to power it i need the cables in the back.
Well, now that i know what im looking for, i just need to find some bulbs. It maybe a good idea to just get the H7 to D2s converter (I assume is just a little piece that connects the loose wires from the ballast and onto which you plug the D2S bulbs). In the long run it would make it easier to just buy D2S Bulbs.

Thanks again Monkey.
+++Rep fpr you

Can someone explain this "washer mod"? I'm wondering if it can be done on Hyundai Tiburons, my friend has one and no matter what color temperature bulb he puts in they never look really great.
