Cylinder Head Removal

I am starting a build on my Protege. Working on the teardown right now. I have a question on how to remove the cylinder head. Are the head bolts the Allen head looking bolts?

Also, is there any manual out there on rebuilding the engine? The only thing I can find is Alldata.

mazda does have a published engine rebuild manual available. your local dealer parts counter should be able to get one for you. the part number was floating around on the forum some where, but i'm too lazy right now to try and find it.

yes the allen head bolts are them.

Yes, the allen bolts between the valves are the head bolts. There are 3 allen bolts down the center of the head that are just plugs for the coolant channels though... don't need to remove those.
