CX-9 Hitch location too low for comfort.

Really hating how low the hitch has to be installed at on the CX-9. Anyone else find it annoying? This is detrimental if you have to go in reverse and you have a steep driveway where it almost catches the ground... However if you put a lot of weight in the back or attach the rest of the hitch adapter for your towing devices you will surely hear the sound of metal scraping cement. Why did Mazda have to drop their SUVs so low? Anyone else having this problem because it prevents me from leaving my bikes attached to the car at a convenient location where otherwise I have to leave my car parked down at the base of the driveway to do all of that installing.

The OE hitch (1 1/4" opening) sits much higher than aftermarket ones (2").

I replaced factory 1.25" hitch with 2" hitch (Hidden Hitch ~$150 online). Modified 2" hitch (cut-re-welded, beefed up hitch Ears at welding shop specializing in RVs here in Houston ~ $150) to fit in factory (Dealer) hitch valence cutout, thus avoiding gap. Hitch now sits flush, higher than aftermarket and wife is much happier.

If the wife is happier, you are happier.
