CX-9 AT and Check Engine Light 2010

Hi-

Twice in the last two weeks my 2010 CX-9 GT with 40k jolts during an upshift and then both the AT light and check engine light illuminate on the dash. The vehicle then places itself in 3rd gear and, obviously, revs higher than normal. If I pull over and shut off the vehicle and restart, the AT light on the dash disappears, and correct shifting resumes, but the check engine light will stay on for a day or so. Then it too will go away and things return fully to normal. The jolt feels like an ignition failure, like shutting off the key at speed and then restarting. It really gives you a jolt.

Any ideas?

Do you have navi system?
Find the error code, and google it.
If there is a light, the cause is not hard to find.
If not, go to Autozone, they can scan it for you for free.
If seems like powertrain related, yours should still be under 5yr/60K coverage.

My guess?
Could be throttle body or torque converter.

I almost hate to bring this up again, but when I was going through my hassle with the gas cap. my dealer told me that sometimes the check engine light comes on regarding fuel cap signals. That's why they reset all the codes on mine. It only took about 45 minutes from start to finish. I would check that cap, especially if you fueled the vehicle as this began. Long shot, but the cap is covered under emissions parts warranty.

Dealer replaced the transmission control module and all is well. Took a while for the correct diagnosis, but the failure was covered under warranty.

I had the exact same problem. Replaced TCM. AT and Engine lights still on. But, it doesn't go into limp mode. I can drive it okay, but as it moves from 3rd to 4th there's a bit of a shudder. After and before are fine. Before TCM replacement - would not shift out of 3rd. Mazda Premacy 2007 Auto.
