hey this is the wife of tricky (Ben). What do you think of a CX 7? I am looking into getting one. Opinions welcome

If you are looking at SUV's the CX7 is a great option. fwd or awd with that great engine for pretty good price.

Don't you hate it when you wife hacks into your account! Mine does that too(no)

Never did any research on the CX7...I was all about the MS3. However, when waiting for them to detail my car at the dealership, I sat in one and ooohhhhhh those seats just hugged me the right way. Very sexy looking car if you ask me, and it does have a lot of power. Also, very styling for a crossover when you compare it to the other manufacturers out there. Let us know your decision!

I took one out for a test spin, they do drive nice. Although I had just the FWD and ended up spinning the wheels getting on the freeway. There was one aspect that bothered me, it seems like the shift points are a bit odd. IIRC the cx-7 has a 6spd auto trannny and for some reason it felt just odd to me. I don't know how else to describe it.

Test drive the 2.3T AWD CX-7, I have heard good things. That might be the next vehicle purchased in our house too.

Sweet Ryan! We're looking at a base model, nothing fancy but definately AWD, used with around 20K miles. Just a nice fun family ride. It'll be the wife's DD but I will be making some minor upgrades :)

It would be a great DD. The newer model doesn't require premium fuel either, if I remember correctly. I wish the warranty was a little longer on the CX-7, but oh well...you can always buy an extendo if you want it.

Yeah, I am trying to talk the wife into it too. She has the Sorento right now that has been great to us, but a few months back it was rear ended. It was fixed, but I don't like the feeling of having a car that has been hit pretty good. It's just about paid off and would really like to put it as a down payment on a CX-7. She definately wants AWD...but she isn't sure if it will be an SUV or a car.

I love my CX-7. Biggest consideration for a new owner is the gas mileage. Because of the different turbo inlet, it spools faster than the mazdaspeeds, so you're always in boost. Good for performance; gas mileage, not so much. That said, I still get about 19-20 mpg with mixed city/highway "spirited" driving. It is not a problem for me, but you will probably hear others saying it is worse for them.

Otherwise, no complaints. I love my car and couldn't see myself in any other suv/cuv or whatever you want to call them. If not for this, I'd probably be driving a legacy gt right now. Good luck either way...

I have heard nothing but good things from people on the forums here and I think they are great. However, my friend who is a tech at Luther Mazda says they are junk. He has had to work on lots of them for multiple problems. Mostly just warranty work and technical service bulletins so just small stuff. I dont want to piss anyone off who owns one but this is just based on my friends experience having to fix them.

I hear the 2008's are better than the 07's in that regard. First year model and all that. That said, I have an 07 and no issues worth mentioning aside from the recall that impacted all of the mazdaspeeds too...

My wife has the 07' cx-7 s gt fully loaded. There a fun car, good amount of power, silly shifting from the auto trans and slapshift. She get about 20-22 mpg's which is ok considering she doesn't drive that much. And the cx-7 is a very good car for the price mid 20's. we paid $32g's for everything.
