CX-50 Hybrid coming this fall

I found the combined torque is 252 lb-ft from this link, that's more like it. Electric motors adding almost 90 lb-ft.
Good to hear and may trade my mine next year for better mileage

I would be more interested in the base model as I don’t need leather seats and the cloth in my cx5 is more than up to the job in 40 degree heat here in Halifax and when it gets freezing in winter.

This is a great video on the Toyota planetary gear CVT: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vHc-_E8
xWnM I've had good results with it in a Prius Prime for 70,000 miles.

The Canadian Mazda site says that the turbo CX-50 will have the 2.5T Mazda Sky-Activ engine. They don't say which 2.5 normally aspirated engine will be in the other CX-50, Mazda or Toyota.

I want a CX-50 hybrid!

What was expected, and that video you posted confirmed, it's the all-Toyota drivetrain in the hybrid CX-50.

The non-hybrids (NA and Turbo) have the same Mazda engines they've had since introduction.

Not a driving review but first look are there. Confirmed it is all Toyota powertrain (engine, transmission, hybrid system, etc)

Sounds like it'll be a winner! Though the hit to rear legroom is concerning..

Saw one at my local dealer yesterday. I was browsing the lot while the airbag recall was being performed on my Miata.

It was weird seeing HYBRID on the rear hatch vs the Skyactiv emblem.

Hello Mazdas247! First post here after purchasing a CX-50 Hybrid in Windchill Pearl The model is Kuro, with red leather interior.

I must say I am enjoying this drivetrain, and believe Mazda made a very good decision to get a hybrid to market by using the Toyota components. The technology and manufacturing are proven and Mazda would have been some years away to the market if starting design and build from scratch.

Anyway looking forward to learning lots about Mazdas and reading comments.

@25Hybrid Welcome and congratulations! It would be great if you could post an intro thread about your new CX-50 Hybrid...I'd love to learn more about it and see pics!

Congrats @25Hybrid! My wife and I are considering replacing her 2023 with a Hybrid but she is bummed that the Hybrid doesn't come in cypress green.

I will, perhaps when it warms up! Not keen on taking pics at -20C.

As far as learning more there is a really good video on a post in this forum "Should you buy a CX-50 Hybrid?" It is a review by a mechanic and he goes into detail on the components from Toyota, and the Mazda integration.

I did see that video @25Hybrid. He is very informative and does great videos. I watched the one he has for the CX-70 PHEV to learn more about it before our daughter bought one. It was great to see the little details of how Mazda and Toyota pulled off this collaboration. They didn't just shoehorn the RAV4 powertrain in there, they took the time to make it look like it was designed from the ground up with it. The one thing I did learn from the video and will have to look into more should we consider one is the speed sensor location and any potential issues it may cause.

Agree on the speed sensor. My guess is that it will end up in a TSB for a modification somewhere in future. It is possible a solution was in engineering but the production could not be held back for this 1 item.

Meantime, that being the only real negative makes for a very substantial quality build overall. I am happy with my purchase at this point.
