CX-5 USB errors.

I have been using a 32gb patriot drive for over a year now, and I just changed some music on it and now it doesn't work. An old 512 stick I have works fine. I'm formatting it now and going to try again tomorrow. Weird that it worked fine for so long then just stops when I move around a few files.

Now onto my 3rd USB stick. Started with Patriot Axle, that failed, went onto Kingston Data Traveler which lasted a few weeks and failed, and now onto a Patriot 3.0. All worked a little while, ended up hanging and ultimately got the USB error message.

The kicker is that they all still work on the computer so I wonder if the head unit is corrupting the drives. That suggests to me that a) it can be fixed through some firmware upgrade and b) there must be a way to rebuild the USB stick's file structure, although formatting hasn't worked.

Using: 2014 CX-5 GT with Tech, 32gig flash drives, songs within album and artist folders.

Ideas?

Suggestion: could posters identify their model year (I'm pretty sure there's a difference between 2013 and 2014 software) and their audio (base, touring or grand touring; bose on base)? Then, we can all understand where the poster is coming from.

Hey guys just wanted to share how to connect any usb files to your player.

1. make sure to format your usb to FAT32

2. after formatting it you can transfer mp3 music to your usb.

3. plug in your usb to the usb port

4. turn it on and off and then turn it back on until you see the usb pops up on your screen

I wasnt able to do it the first time until I formatted my usb drive to fat 32. now im a happy camper

Just wanted to let everyone know that after speaking with Mazda and my local service department, the issue appears to be known. There is a problem (with some) cables that connect the USB port to the system. I was advised that replacing the internal cable fixes the issue with the port causing USB sticks to eventually give a USB ERROR message, and then stop working. My local Mazda were told what to order and will be replacing it under warranty once it gets in.

I just thought I would share this and encourage anyone experiencing this problem to contact their dealer. My dealer was not personally aware of the issue, but contacted his "guy" at Mazda Canada who advised, again, that it is a known issue (with a solution :P)

I'm going to assuming there was an issue with the 5 volt DC power corrupting the USB controller...Still strange that the drive would still work in other devices, but oh well...All that matters is it's easily fixable.

Do I need to contact both mazda canada and local dealer to fix this issue? I am in canada too(SK).

That's awesome dude. I happened to contact my dealer service guy yesterday, but he didn't return my call, so I'll hit him with this in the AM.

I'm currently using a 64GB Kingston USB 2.0 DataTraveler with 2,000+ songs in my 2014 CX-5 GT. It generally "works"...but there are some problems:
1. The more songs on the drive, the longer it takes to initially load whenever you turn the car on. With currently 2,500 songs, it takes about 2 minutes to load up before it's able to play. Not horrible...but why not save a snapshot of the drive so you don't have to do this every time? Then if the drive hasn't changed, you don't have to load. I originally tried an iPhone 4 through the USB port, and that took 5-10 minutes to load approximately 3,000 songs...so in my experience a USB drive is much faster.
2. After waiting a few minutes for the drive to load, it starts playing the first song alphabetically on the drive, and doesn't resume playing where you left off. This is very annoying...why did they not think this simple feature was important?
3. When shuffling all songs on the drive, the shuffle order will sometimes be exactly the same. Although, I think I have found a way around this by skipping a few tracks first, then turning on shuffle.

I plugged in my Iphone4 with the Apple cable to the USB jack and the screen just says error. there are over 2000 songs but other people aren't having an issue with this... any ideas?

could that be the max number of songs in a FOLDER? rather than on the stick as a whole?

We'll see. Taking my car in on Monday for the service. Evidently there's an open question as to whether there's a control module between the head unit and the USB port or just a cable. Either way, they have to take the whole thing apart and order a replacement for whatever's in there. This is the diagnosis after a mechanic took a look at it last week and spent 20 mins on the phone with Mazda California.

Just got a call from the dealership. They resolved the problem and said it was a faulty Bluetooth module. They claim it's all set. Had module in stock. I'll see tonight when I pick it up. Strange.

I have the same problems with a 34GB. The problems are the same for CX-5 and Mazda6. Many customers around the world are dissatisfied with this system, a petition was organized for Mazda solves the problem ; you can consult this link for more information : https://www.change.org/petitions/mazda-north-america-mazda-uk-mazda-spain-espaa-update-head-unit-software-for-the-2014-mazda6

Hi, could you share your local dealers contact details and confirm exactly what parts were changed pls? I'm assuming your USB error issue is now fixed? My local dealer is blaming my USB stick. Odd as it worked fine in my car until one day it stopped. It continues to work fine in my two home computers and my M3 but my dealer says it's definately my USB stick and not the car!

I'll put the update on a new topic.

Do you mind posting the update here too pls? My dealer and Mazda UK appear not to to understand there is a fix for the USB Error issue.

Just want to know how to get mine to play more than 265 songs.....it has 505 loaded on it.
