CX-5 Sales continue to set records

When I worked for Ford, back in 2004-2005, a decently equipped F150 was in the 30's/40's. F250, 40-50's (6.0, which sucked, but...), and b arely cresting 60ish for a loaded out King Ranch, IIRC. The Mustangs were 30-40K....just like they are today. So don't anyone try to spin the "but they have evolved and inflation and..."

Agreed, Uno. A truck is a truck.

But obviously they figured out they had a market that would pay them buku bucks for 'em. Can't blame the auto makers for that.

Oh, I'm not placing blame, just saying it's over-inflated, and next time the economy takes a poop, I'd hate to own the carlot with a bunch sitting on it.

If Americans stopped buying Trucks Ford GM would go out of business in 6 months. They dont make money on passenger cars with their 4000 off MSRP gigs to get things sold. I saw Fusion titanium hybrid with 40% off sticker - now thats so desperate it makes Nissan looks expensive which is hard to do.

I work in a corporate office too-the lady in IT and an IT manager drive trucks. When gas gets to 3.50 these trucks and hummers would not find many takers.

As if being a Chrysler isn't bad enough!

One of my coworkers like 6 month old Jeep (Compass?) died on her commute home last night. Honestly don't know why anyone buys a thing from that company...lol

Strangely enough (given the current conversation), they gave her a minivan as a loaner (rlaugh)

Agreed. That said, lifetime unlimited warranty is pretty cool. I wish others offered it.

Any rate, CX-5 has been the number 1 selling SUV here in Oz land since 2013

Dealers @ Jeep have a name for that particular model. They call it "Come to Us" and not "Compass".

I had one as a rental once. Fiat assembled the seats with sheet metal screws with the tips pointed out. After I nicked the back of my ankle a couple of times I had to look to see what was biting me. I wouldn’t have believed it if I was told.

The vehicle was pure junk.

Sorry, I don't believe you. There was nothing so cheap-ass in the Compass that I sat in, and my impression from riding in Cherokees and Grand Cherokees is that their interior quality is above average for the class. For example, the top trim of the Cherokee is just as nice inside as the CX-5 GT. IMO, they're overpriced and unreliable, but they are nice vehicles.

Fiat is not known for its reliability. They are mocked in the car world just like old Jaguars were.

Agreed, but damn if they don't dominate the price-point for looks, performance, and options in many categories. Their lack of reliability is almost worth it when you consider you can get bumper-to-bumper lifetime coverage for only a few thousand more.

+1

My 2010 Jeep Grand Cherokee STILL has features Mazda doesn't. Loved that thing...it just wasn't reliable.
