CX-5 Radar detector hardwire question

I’m trying to do a hardwire install on my wife’s 2017 CX-5 Touring. I’ve been able to do a simple wire tap on my M3 and Palisade but because there are more variations of the CX-5 I’m finding it more difficult to find a simple guide. This trim doesn’t have the powered rear view mirror but it does have a sensor mounted to the windshield. I’m trying to avoid the inline fuse and routing down the A-pillar if possible.

I can turn a wrench but I’m not skilled in the electrical department. Attached is the wiring of the sensor. I assume this is a switched power source I just don’t know what wires to slide the wire tap into. Thanks.

As you can see, there’s black, pinkish, red and purple colored wires coming from the sensor.

You might wanna take a look at the people who installed dash cams. They will most likely have the diagrams/pin outs for you to figure out which is which. Otherwise it’s time to break out the old voltmeter.

You didn't mention which detector. I use Valentine's OBD II plug in power source/speed control to power the Gen2 V1 in my Miata. You will want to route the wire under the trim for a clean install.

If you aren't using a V1, you should!

I’m using a Uniden R7 in the M3 and R4s in the Palisade and CX-5.

Hardwiring should be ok as long as your not in Virginia where it's illegal to own a detector or any of the few other states that prohibit attaching any type of device to your windshield. The detector might be legal but you would have to find a place to attach it down low on your dash somewhere.

2019 GT-R with the standard black auto-dimming homelink mirror. My wire-kit had 2 or 3 different size prongs, using the smallest ones i was able to jack right into the back of the molex in the mirror. 1st slot to the driver side is hot, 3rd is ground. It's switched power with the ignition, runs my passport escort360.

Yup. I have this set up on my M3 and Palisade. Just looking to figure out the CX-5 now. I'm not good with a multimeter but I have one and I'm watching Youtube vids to learn how to decipher what wires are live when on and off when the car turns off.

on the mirror connector
the black wire is ground, its in the middle and is pure black.
first one ( closer to driver side) is positive and works when ignition is on. Its blue with black mark.
Its visible on the picture above. You cant miss it.

Are you referring to my photos in the first post or the CX-5 mirror harness for the powered rear view mirror? My mirror is not powered, I’m looking to use the connector in the photos I’ve posted.

sorry the mirror harness.
Ok I see what you mean. Only power nearby is the front camera connector. I may have the wiring digaram somewhere. Let me look.

black is Ground(negative)
on the far right is the signal from the relay.
so far right and far left :) verify with multimeter as always 12v dc.
btw I dont think anybody has connected a device to the cam 12v so the usual disclaimer - its your own responsibility if something doesnt play nice.
The front camera is an active and advanced device which communicates on the car network vs the powered mirror which is just a simple device.

the other two wires which are one on top the other is for data connection on the can bus.dont touch those two

Update! This is working great so far. The power stays on to the unit for about 3 minutes after the car turns off but then it turns off. The one in my BMW does the same thing. The only thing I did wrong was break the tabs on the plastic surround when removing it to get access so be careful. I was using plastic pry tools as well. The tabs were just difficult on the outer edges. I have to order a replacement now.
