CX-5 In the Wind?????

Just my .02 but I sure would not be tempted to lower the CX-5 in Texas. We have too many high water crossings with any rain. I have a lowered car and went to San Antonio to pick it up from servicing it. They wouldn't let me have it because it was lowered and we had heavy rain. They were right.

I would say that without question, on the highway and in the wind, the CX-5 is a louder car than the Honda CR-V (newest generation). For some reason, the wind noise in this car can be extreme. At first, I did not notice it but it is noticeable.

On a side note, the Mazda (yes the CX-5) reminds me more of my old MG than any other car I have ever had. It has a fun feel to it and a natural steering that is very enjoyable. It has some oddities as well that are, well for no better word, very british...

Thanks very much for your reply and information, very interesting about the noise.
It seems like all the cars/ and trucks these days have a lot of road and wind noise.

Had to smile about the MG statement, and the Very British with it's quirks and feel.
That might just sway me as I've missed my MGB every day since I sold it, seems like
Marriage does things like that, just no room for 3 vehicles<G>.

My experience with CX-5 after 2 years+ is crosswind sensitivity is a bit more than other SUVs owned and driven including Explorer(s), Liberty, Cherokee, GC, H3, RR, Suburban, Highlander, Rav4, ML, and GLK.

Thanks very much, well at least I'd know this going in. My Truck gets really whipped around in high winds, and especially
cross winds. It just makes me slow down a little and pay more attention.

I would not recommend the CX-5 (or any other lightweight crossover) if comfort of travel in strong winds (cross or headwinds) is a big concern.

It really takes concentration to keep the CX-5 between the lines in strong gusty winds.

As long as there is no wind the CX-5 is very quiet. Even at high speeds there is minimal wind noise, however when there is a moderate crosswind the interior quickly becomes noisy. I think this explains why some reviewers praise the CX-5 for it's quiet ride while others complain about the wind noise.

Really good information, Thanks so much, if nothing else going in alerted, if it's the one
I choose, then I'll know what to expect.

I don't guess there's any simple solutions to cut down the road noise? I've read several
posts on adding the sound deadening material, but it seems expensive and the results
didn't seem to be very satisfactory.

Thanks so much for bringing that up, it's one of the things that I have to say
I've been excited about was the 8.5" ground clearance. Plus being up higher
and seeing over most cars.

With the Weather we've had the last 3-4 days, that clearance would sure
be a welcome advantage.
