CX-5 Adaptive Cruise Control…How often do you use it?

I know the emergency braking works, because it’s gone off 2 or 3 times in the past couple of years, but I don’t think the car’s designed to bring you to a stop behind a stopped car. It might work, but I don’t have the nerves to complete the test!
It absolutely is designed to stop you. It simply has...bigger balls then you do. It's very last minute. :D

Mine is on most of the time. It was startling the first time it worked, now I am getting more used to it and find it a valuable safety feature. And yes, the automobile will stop you behind another car, but not when you are first to the stop light or stop sign. I would have had to buy the turbo signature for that. I have no interest in a turbo, and this way it keeps me more attentive, which is always good.

i just need to read manual and adjust the following distance a little shorter and i would like it better. is there a way to bypass the adaptive cc and it just do basic cc? had option in other car to bypass adaptive by holding pwr button.

I think if you hit the Cruise ON button twice it will revert to old style cruise control.

On the 2022 CX-5 you can switch to normal cruise control by pressing and holding the mode button on the steering wheel.
I don't know if it's the same for the 2023.

Had it on a rental car, two years ago. A Subaru Outback, IIRC. Adding the LIDAR distance management aspect to a traditional cruise control is brilliant. Should have been part of the original designs for such things.

If for no other reason than keeping a reasonable distance between all vehicles that use such things, at least at normal speeds and flows, it's great. It had a braking function associated with it, as well. It'd first temporarily cease cruise and would then lightly brake if needed. Much prefer having as great a distance as possible between me and the car ahead. Smooths out the drive, and when set to 3-seconds distance it affords much greater safety buffer.

The car also had a lane-departure warning, where the steering wheel would "rumble" when slowly meandering out of a lane. Didn't seem very adept at distinguishing when I was actually making a deliberate move out of a lane. But that would be hard to discern: when I was intending it, versus when accidentally doing so. Not so useful, IMO, until they get it right.

It will panic brake if you don't touch the brake pedal. It's giving you a chance to react first.
yeah, that kind of makes sense, except that it's not asking me to brake; it's telling me to BRAKE! Why would it do that if it doesn't need me to help out?

I use the adaptive cruise control whenever I'm driving a stretch of highway that's not completely jammed with traffic. One problem with it is that in curves it will pick up on cars that are in the other lane and brake inappropriately. It's a known issue with all makes using this system I think, but it is annoying.

Oh. You're one of "those people" that don't use your turn signals properly. :D /Teasing
Took me a few minutes to figure it out. When you change lanes and don't use your turn signal, that's when it warns you. Said the other way, it warns you when you change lanes without signaling. This is exactly how it should work: stay outta my way when I'm changing lanes, and it will if you use your signals every time. How else can a computer possibly determine your intent to change lanes? Direct wire to the brain maybe. (Coming in 2028!)

It's giving you one chance before it takes over. And when you crash anyway, a message pops up "I tried to tell you..."

I do like to use the adaptive cruise, when it works. Half the time it disengages saying front radar blocked. Took it back to dealer at least 3 times whilst under warranty (2016 1/2). All I got from them was nothing found. I tried everything on my end still got nowhere. So finally learned how to set it to regular cruise when adaptive cruise decides not to work.

I use mine all the time when I am on the highway. I’ve tried several different makes with ACC, and the system in my 23 CX5 turbo is by far the best. Unlike some of you have experienced, I don’t have any issues when going around curves. It’s practically flawless. We have a 2020 Accord Touring Turbo as well, and the Mazda’s ACC is much better. I now do not mind driving on congested highways as much. I just simply steer and let the Mazda contend with the constant flow/speed changes.

Perhaps they'll figure out the curve-related adjustment like exists with the headlights.

On the highway, though, at highway speeds, I would think that type of situation would be quite rare.

Yeah, when nobody's around I occasionally head into the neighboring lane. (Easy enough to determine nobody's around, of course; many people, some days seemingly most, don't bother attempting such determination, but that's a whole other discussion.)

On the feature, I didn't have the rental that long, and only had a couple opportunities to play with the stuff. It had whatever Subaru's i-Active equivalent is, if I'm remembering correctly. The model I had didn't bark if I quickly zipped into a lane, or if I signalled, but as I recall it would "rumble" at me if I slowly meandered off the edge of a lane, warning me (sort of like a roadway's rumble strip will do).

Anyway. Not enough time in the saddle to evaluate all the features, brief rental that it was.

i assume you're being facetious and not speaking from actual experience? 😄
