It looks like it would look pretty good in person. But in those pics it looks kinda like a shop rag.

SHH! (no) Dont give away the secret.

It does look better in person. Photos are from a non digital camcorder. It takes bad pictures but the video quality is very good.

why not use vinyl?

I had the "shop rag" lying around and decide to use it. Plus vinyl is cheap looking. The stuff I have kind of looks like suede. If I can find good leather I am going to re do it.

You know, I went to the Mazda Rev It Up and saw the Mazdaspeed they had for showcasing. The shift boot was pretty awesome, does anyone know which one I am talking about?

The boot was leather and had red stitching... like what you see in the Civic Type-R. Any chance I can order that from Mazda you think? I'll ask my local dealership in a few days, cause I would love to install that in my car.

BTW, the Sparco shift knob is much much better seen in person than what I had imagined it to be like from just looking at the photos in magazine/websites. I envy you Mazdaspeed owners! :p

Well I am still in the sewing process but I am making mine out of black suede. Just went to a local fabric store and picked some up. They had all kinds of colors. If things go well I thought about making these and offering them up for sale. Would fit just as stock does but would be a different material and different color. They even had an orange that may look good with the mazdaspeed if someone was so inclined.

Sorry no thrying to threadjack you here. A few questions... I have tried 3 different top designs but so far the only one that I have found that looks decent under the shift knob is if I sew a small slit in the top and use a cord to tie it tight. I have seen alot of shift boots like this and thats where I got my idea from but was just wondering how you did it.

was just wondering how you did it.

I just took the fabric and guessed on where to cut it. I didnt like seeing the stitching so I just made it out of one piece and cut a hole in the middle, hot glued it to a washer, and slid it on the shifter.

Im getting tired of it tho, what I think im gonna do is get either red leather or black leather (with red stitching) and make a new one.

More crappy pics to follow.

hey

i've done up my own shift boot too - out of black kangaroo leather (i am an aussie after all)

see piccy attached

by the way, that's the oem shifter with the extension taken off if you're after a height idea
