Custom License Plate Holder ^_^

So using the tow hook that I found in my trunk i fashioned up a customer license plate holder similar to what corksport has. It's nowhere as pretty but it's definately very functional. Very simple yet strong welds let me tighten and secure plate to it fairly easily.

The bar is the width of the license plate so you don't see the bar.

I'm thinking of mounting the license plate on the bottom holes so that the bar is less visible from the front, and I'm also going to paint the whole contraption black and use the permanent loctite to keep it in place. The loctite that required 500 degrees F and hand tools to get off =-)

Hope u all like it, and i'll take more pictures of the things after i get it painted and the plate mounted for final product

*update*

When mounted on the bottom holes it looks like this.

Looks a little weird and too far up IMO, but it hides the tow hook hole.

The hole is clearly visible...I'd be more than happy to take suggestions and opinions.

And yes, the plate will be leaning towards the driver side of the car a bit, as the weld and measurements were not perfect

*idea*
I could possibly drill 2 more holes towards the middle of the plate so that it hangs half on top and half on bottom....

Why not run 2 more strips of metal?
3 holes in each, 2 for plate 1 for the bar. That way you can adjust the height accordingly.

Also think about maybe doing a "X' bar. This way the plate would be centered and would block the hole at least from the front.

actually added some "lifters" and readjusted the bar so that it would sit straight, now the main bar will support the plate as well...pictures as soon as it cools off from the rewelds and i can put it on the car

here are you two final pictures. The final touches will just be that it's painted black and that i put loctite on it.

There are the risers or lifters that were welded on.

You can try to find a spare cover for tow hook and drill the hole so just the hook will go thru it. This way You wont see the hole in bumper (my english is not perfect so I hope You know what I mean :)

good idea

Other thing.. why not to bend the bar behind the plate so it would follow the shape of bumper ( I dont know if bending your license pate is legal ;)

its a nice concept, but i find it weird having the plate offset like that. mite be my OCD but its just me. u may wanna bend that support bar so it can curve proportion to the bumper. looking at the top view with the plates on, theres a big gap on the passenger side.

you are correct. because this couldn't be made similar to the corksport plate holder, we wanted something that would prefer to stay screwed on tightly...and that even if it got loose it would most likely stay on due to weight being on the "driver" side. There IS a gap towards the passenger side like you say and I would like that as well...but laziness has taken over lol and i've already gotten it painted and everything.

On the other hand...i wonder if the corksport plate holder actually contours to the bumper as well...i'm not actually sure, but it does look like it's angled and facing the actual plate towards the passenger side...

It's something to consider definately.
