custom FMIC/shortram (pics)

im not exactly sure what the coating is called, i was told its a thermal coating similar to whats used for headers . the place that coated them was in fredricksburg VA i dont know the name, its what i was told when they where sent out .(aprox 6 months ago)
my short term memory is shot.
the pipes do enter opposite sides of the IC , unfortunatly it would have required alot of cutting and re routing to do it any other way

the reason i coated them is - even stainless steel will tarnish and discolor , these will always look just like that , an extra 300 $$ well spent in my opinion

some one asked me about the fan,... the stock fan was replaced with a mini high performance fan . its a little stronger then norm. and comes on as often . it is a wee bit louder tho

looks nice, wouldnt painting the IC retain heat , or diminish some of the alums heat dissapation properties? (it be like painting a cpu heatsink), i can see anodizing mabye but i was also wondering about painting. Id love a black hidden IC as well.

i remember reading one time that painting doesn't significantly decrease the efficiency of the intercooler. it probably does make it retain a little heat, but not enough to make it a problem

Some company makes special IC paint that actually increases the performance. It comes in only black. I dont know much about it but it was in the SCC, "how to be a sleeper article"

i think that's where i read that krylon is the cheap alternative and doesn't hurt bad :)

yeap I have the article in front of me. ITs called Stealth Coat by Swain Technology. ALso says that testing at Garrett shows paint doesn't hurt intercooler efficiency.

looks good do you have the contact info for the place in va i need somme pipes bent also for my ic. i did something a lil diff. also i bought a saab ic and had some pipes crush bent and made it work now i need someone to mandrel bend off my dim. contact info would be of great help cuz here in knoxville aint nobody that can do it. not to threadjack but are you gonna come up to bristol for the nopi event.

dunno if your familiar with them or not , they had another name a year or 2 ago. also i believe machv motorsports are getting ready to merge with these guys. on a 1-10 scale i give um a 8 in craftsmenship , 7 in customer service
and like a 5 on price , but all custom work is insane $$
not sure if i can make it to nopi or not , i think im going to try

Dunno if you said this or not, but how much did you end up paying for the FMIC?

i tried to keep track of it all, but i couldnt some things took a while to get a hold of (certain silicone couplers, pipe coating etc)
it was some thing like this tho
bov=300$
IC=600$
fab pipes= 500$
coating pipes=300$
couple hundred on misc BS like couplers and clamps prob just over 2k when all was said and done.

i was qouted a few similar prices in the area. 1600-1800 but was told these guys are the s*** for custom fab.

also the only kit available at the time i started this was the Ion , spool had just gone under. and i didnt like how the ion kit used the stock BPV. i think it looks kinda ghetto (not a flame). and i dont like the injen intakes goofy metal tube thingy . i just wanted all the plastic crap out of my turbo system.
