Looks like this unit is now available on ebay.
YMMV.

What is GB?

and $660 is more reasonable though I don't know how that compares to Crutchfield items.

Um...this is weird. I think language barriers are making things look a little off here. Is Sarge around to look into this?

I think its important to recognize the drawback of this location for the nav unit, factory or otherwise. The screen is out of normal field of vision unless your 5' tall, as it sits too low in the dash. For all the faults of the 06-07 nav system, the one thing they got right was the placement of the screen on the upper dash. This allows the driver to view it without taking eyes off the road.

if the factory looking unit had sirius sat built in I would be totally game for it...

or can it work with the mazda sirius setup

I was searching around, and found a whole bunch of stereos on Alibaba.com specifically made for our vehicles for some scary-cheap prices!

http://www.alibaba.com/product-gs/322719605/dvbt_canbus_gps_for_Mazda5_car.html

Some of them are in the $200-$300 range, and claim to be complete with steering wheel controls!

But, I'm weary to be the first to try it. Has anyone here tried the Chinese stereos and can report good experiences with them yet?

dishe,

all the same unit bud. I will be ordering one from them once I get straightend away...

They don't seem to be the same unit at all!
Take a look at the one bootman posted from ebay... looks more like standard double-din head unit shoved into a faceplate. I've seen a few in that style, offering a very "after-market" look. At the same time, I've seen a few with buttons that look more like original equipment, with matching color volume dials, etc, like the CASKA branded models that michle236 posted. I've also seen a couple of varying styles of that, with knobs higher up on top, or others in the middle, splitting the array of buttons on left and right in half.

Yes, they all advertise the same features, most likely because they are all based on the same head unit reference design running CE that seems popular to mass produce over there. But that doesn't make them the same.

I've learned from the Chinese scooter industry (I own two 150cc china mopeds), its that those manufacturers are all trying to mass produce off the same "borrowed" reference design, but put their own spin and/or cut corners in different places.
The same moped I bought from Eagle Motorsports is also available from SunL as well as several other US importers. However, the SunL is cheaper, as is the quality of the product (had a nightmare of electrical and mechanical problems on it, while the Eagle is running like a champ!).

Caska seems to be only company importing these with a Brand stamped on it, which means they might actually be the only ones interested in quality control.

My bottom line here is that there ARE deals to be found with Chinese equipment (some of them work very well!), however make no mistake- not everything made in China is made equally. Even from the same manufacturing plant.

Id say that caska just orders theirs from china and puts their brand name on it. they are the same unit...

You didn't read a thing I said, did you?

Yes, that is CLEARLY what they do... But all chinese-made units are not created equal, even ones based on the same guts.

I really like this unit. back up camera included and 8inch screen

But i'm leary about units from overseas

I have looked into buying the gps unit seperate and just installing the unit my self no need to buy everything together
if i can buy a better gps dvd

I'm with you; i'd love to have something like this, but hesitate on working with an overseas dealer on something that's going to cost about $580 shipped.

See that, and yet ANOTHER example of another style of these units! That one has NO BUTTONS OR KNOBS around the display at all! Only on the top, which means they've spread out the unit to cover more than the double-Din area supplied by a faceplate. How on earth could one imply that these "are all the same"?!

I would only buy one from a company that gives a rats 2%$# about its reputation and doesn't hide behind an anonymous name (Caska, for example, is a brand name of these units).
